Hello! My name is Alejandra, I will be married in Puerto Rico November of 2011 at Gran Melia in Rio Grande, P.R.  and super excited!!! It'll be a destination wedding.  Neither my fiancé nor I have anyone we know in Puerto Rico but we visited the island in October and fell completely in love with it!!!

We were thinking of getting a wedding coordinator, but opted to do it ourselves since we are on a budget...Got the cake secured, the venue and currently working with a decorator and an entertainment company.  Oh! We have our Reverand too!!! Super excited!!!

Hi LittleEcuadorian, we are getting married in P.R. in November of 2011 and neither my fiance or I are Puerto Ricans either but we fell completely in love with the island!

We visited in October, and visited many venues, I loved Gran Melia!  The catering manager isn't the best thus far, but maybe I'm just not used to the island time thing...

I know your wedding was a couple of years ago, however the site still posts your blog.  How did everything go?  Did you end up using Lisa Rodriguez and like her?  Please let me know- we are

going in two weeks to check things out.

What hotel did you end up going with if you didn't want to go to Hilton Caribe?  We are trying to find a venue and hotel right now and I am very nervous.  I have a week there to look and want to spend my time wisely on good locations.  Suggestions?

Ok- I've read through many of the blogs and am still unsure on how to pick a hotel/venue.  We are traveling from Chicago and hope to have a wedding in Nov. or Dec. 2011.

We are short on time, but are going to PR next week for Spring Break.  I want to make the best use of time and narrow the hotels down to a few.  Did you call ahead of time to plan a meeting with each hotel you were interested in?  So far (from the web) I like El Conquistador, El San Juan Hotel, La Concha and El Convento.  Any one marry at any of these and have excellent luck?

Also, do I get a coordinator?  I am pretty good with making plans, but may need someone from PR to do the leg work.  Ideas, help, suggestions?

Hey there,

My fiancee and I are recently engaged and visited PR a few weeks ago to scope it out.  We LOVED Castillo Serralles in Ponce and are most likely planning on having something there next March.  We also found a caterer who we really liked - super cheap too!  The only thing we're really unsure of is the church thing.  We'll get married in any church within like a 30 minute drive of Ponce, but whoever says our ceremony needs to be English speaking. Anyone have any suggestions??

Oh my goodness, that's so funny! My fiancee and I are getting married in PR in March 2012. We're having our reception @ Castillo Serralles, and had the same thought about the church thing (and pretty much the same 30 minute rule!). We got in touch with a wedding planner down there. Her name is Aida Rodriguez (AMR Weddings), and she mentioned that there's a Baptist church like 5 minutes from Castillo Serralles which has a minister who speaks English.  There's also the cathedral right in the center of the square which is gorgeous.  They said they could bring someone in who speaks English.  Aida also mentioned that there's another Catholic church in Ponce too.  We haven't decided on a church yet but we're banking on the Baptist one (my fiancee is Baptist and I'm Catholic), mainly because it's air conditioned.  If that doesn't work out, we might just get married in the Japanese garden. We're also trying to figure out the caterer, and found one from Isabela who is super cheap.  What's the name of the caterer you found??

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
