Night before the wedding tradition

Recommended Posts

Is it bad luck to see your fiance the night before the wedding?

I know you're not to sleep together that night but I wasn't too sure if you could see him at all the day before?? How does that tradition work, do people still practice it? My MOH told me I'm not to see my FH at all the day/night before.

I've never heard of the tradition of not seeing him the day before.

I understood that it was tradition that the couple was supposed to say good bye the night before, sleep in separate accomodations and not see each again until the ceremony.

I also understood that traditionally, the rehersal dinner was the night before, so most brides and grooms did see each before.

But you can always create new traditions...if you want to wink.gif

Well that's good. I kinda wanted to schedule a couples massage for the day before. i was worried though but that would make sense about the rehersal dinner and all. Thanks!

Anyone else have anything special planned for the day or night before??

We're planning a sort of bach. day - a girls day out and a guys day out the day before. The girls can go to the spa or swim with the dolphins or something girly, and the guys will probably go golfing or something. So I guess we won't be together, but that won't be for the entire day. I'm pretty sure we'll share accomodations the night before too...

I was planning on saying goodbye the night before and then not seeing each other until the ceremony the next evening. I loved the idea of seeing my FI face as I walked down the aisle. My FI will probably go golfing the day of the wedding - that way I will be free to wonder the resort without running into him (lets face it - it will take him like 10 mins to get ready for the wedding!) BUT when we went down to Cabo last week and met with our photographer he suggested that we either move our ceremony time up or see eachother before the ceremony so that we can get the best photos. I checked and we are not going to be able to move the ceremony up - It is set for 07-07-07 @ 7pm SOOOOO know I am rethinking everything! don't know what to do now...

My husband and I hung out the night before our wedding. We had friends in town and wanted to hang out with them so we did. But we did stay in separate places that night. Which was kinda weird. . .we were up talking on the phone and texting half the night! lol! I'm not sure entirely how that would work for you guys since you're all staying at hotels and resorts...would you have to book an additional room for one night? I wonder if that would be kind of a pain - the FI switching rooms for one night? Hmmmm. . .

But honestly, the staying apart thing was actually kinda' fun too. . .the anticipation of everything made it kind of exciting. And we didn't see each other at all the day of the wedding until I came into the ceremony. Which we really liked. It was fun thinking about each other throughout the day and looking forward to getting married! love.gif

I think it will be really exciting to not see each other for the entire day of the wedding. We will say goodnight after our rehearsal dinner and knowing my FI he will call me before he actually goes to sleep. I am actually going to CA for almost a month before the wedding and won't see him until about a week before the wedding, so there will be a lot of excitement in seeing other and getting married.

we were kind of planning a girl activity & a boy activity the day before the wedding, but not sure yet, but I think we'll probably stay together the night before the wedding and then maybe have breakfast the next morning, maybe a couples massage, and then I'll leave to go get ready and the next time we see each other I'll be walking down the aisle!

I've always heard it was bad luck to see each other the day of the wedding (not the day before). I personally thought it would be neat if the both of us got up that morning and went to the beach ourselves to exchange private vows to each other before getting ready with our bridal party. But he is more traditional and likes the idea of not spending the night together and not seeing each other the day of until the ceremony. I think the only hotel that I've seen that makes it easier to spend the night apart is Dreams--- I've seen their packages include a second room for the groom the night previous, if available....

We'll be together the day before with our guests and we planned on staying in our room together that night since I'll be leaving early the day of the wedding and won't see him until the ceremony. If we choose to separate that night afterall he'll just crash in one of his single GM's rooms, we're not booking an extra room for that one night. We're not the traditional type cool.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
