Changing your name

Recommended Posts

I am keeping my maiden name for professional purposes (I'm a teacher and have a much easier name for kids to pronounce- Matte, pronounced like the finish). FI's last name is not difficult, but is not French and I teach French so I like to keep it that way. I will take it for legal purposes I think.. although in Canada even if you change your legal name you can still always legally sign or identify yourself with your maiden name.

I am not changing either... there are no issues with it either. The only people who have had a problem are "other" people, friends, other family members but Tim has had NO issue with me not taking his last name. It's not that I don't like it.... I would be going from Scottish to Irish, it's for professional and personal reasons.... I LIKE my name... and I LOVE my signature.....ahhahaha!

And I really don't sign his last name very well anyway....ahaha!

I have been humming and hawing about this. I would like to make my last name and make it a middle name just like we did with our kids, but then I have to legally change my name rather than just assume his lastname. That is why you can go by either name up here in Canada. If you assume your husbands name, it is legal yet it is not a legal name change!

I really like my initials "ET" and don't want to give them up, and ever since I started looking into my geneology, I really like my lastname (even though people usually say it wrong) and to me, that is me!

  • 4 weeks later...

I am changing my last name. I don't feel particularly attached to it...it is my fathers name & he is a bit of an ass! So I am kind of happy to be rid of it! Plus I like the way Amanda Merrigan sounds! I just feel bad for my mom...when her & my dad got divorced she kept his name because she didn't want to have a diff name than me...now I'm changing mine & she's stuck with my dad's!! She feels like she is to old to be messing around with her names now! I feel so bad!

Haven't and will not change mine!

I was in med school when we got engaged and I said that if we get married before I get my degree, maybe I'll change it and if after, deffinitely not! When we actually got engaged, I thought about it and decided that no matter what, I'm not changing my name. Hubby was a bit upset about it at first but then thought about it and said that it's my name and I should do whatever feels right to me. He really knows me too well! I seriously cannot be pushed into something I dont want! Major pms.gif queen!

So after we got married, I told him that I dont mind changing my name if he feels strongly about it AND does all the foot/paper work associated with it b/c I deffinitely will not. His reponse was: please keep your name!!!!!! :) LOL I figured that this is something I can do at any point in our married life if I all of a sudden feel strongly about it!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
