Christy - yay what a fun idea for your welcome books! I tried a bunch of drinks down there....here's what I recommend:

- Mexicano (shot) it's 3 different liquors poured in a shot glass in layers to resemble the Mexican flag (green, white, red). Kinda tastes like sambuca.

- Tequila Slammers!!

- If you're in the Beach side lobby, look for Alfredo (bartender) and ask him for "Anti-freeze" lol see what you end up with. I ran out of drinks on the menu to try so he whipped up a bunch of different things together and called it anti-freeze, because it was blue and sweet. It's delicious!

- I didn't have one while I was there but I've heard they make awesome Dirty Monkeys (chocolate + banana drink)

We did a 3 tier cake, with all 3 flavours. The bottom was strawberry cheesecake (which was awesome), the middle was chocolate and the top was vanilla. Our guests were really happy with having the choice.

1.) Bring BUG Spray - A couple of my friends left w/ big insect bites to remember the trip by. We were told by an employee that their rainy season was perfect breeding weather for mosquitos. There are a lot of ponds by the buffets and lobbies we could have especially used spray in those 2 places. Mosquitos were pretty bad at our aquabar reception also.

2.) Bring all the emails that confirm your wedding details. They tried to switch prices on us but it helped to have in writing what was previously agreed upon. This includes the resort photographers. They must have just recently updated their prices but I was able to get the price initally relayed to me by the WC b/c I had it in writing.

3.) I made the mistake of becoming one big ball of worry the last 2 weeks before my wedding. Please do not make that same mistake. Just make sure you have the date and time you want and that they confirmed receiving your wedding details sheet. Everything else will be covered by a hour long meeting w/ the WC when you get there. Karla was great and tried really hard to meet all expectations. I saw Reyna once while there and was not her biggest fan since she stopped emailing replies the last couple months without any explanation and Karla started answering emails a month before my date.

In the end, it was what we had pictured our ceremony being. Our dinner reception was at the steakhouse in its new air conditioned location and everyone loved the food and a break from the heat of picture taking on the beach. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves and some are even planning their own trips back.

My photographers posted some pics on their blog: (scroll down to their 7/13 entry)

Good Luck w/ planning and feel free to ask any questions.
Best Wishes!
Do you have a map of the Del Mar? Also, why did you chose the gazebo over the beach for your cermony?

Thanks,
Noel

I do have a map of the Del Mar but it will be useless to you as it was to us since its not an updated version. Have the WC email you an updated map because the changes to the restaurants are not shown on the one I have. We decided to go with the gazebo b/c we did not want onlookers during a beach ceremony. The gazebo turned out to be the right choice for us.
I have read another review here where they made it clear to the WC that they wanted onlookers kept at a distance and they were happy w/ the job the WC did in keeping them away. If you've always wanted a beach ceremony, I say go for it...I've read a ton of reviews that said the reviewer did not notice anyone other than the officiant and their spouse during the whole ceremony :)

Thanks for the compliments on the pictures. We're very happy we had other pics to supplement the resort photographer's :)

Hello all!

I've been trying to figure this out and you all seem to be much more helpful than my TA or resort WC so maybe you can help!

We are wanting to get married at the Iberostar grand, we met with someone at the hotel while we were there and she said kids could come to the wedding and to the reception but only if we rented out La Brisa and had the wedding on the beach. Has anyone done this? I seem to hear from everyone that they told them NO kids so I'm confused!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
