I have heard mixed reviews about the translation. Some brides said yes, some said no. I would rather be safe than sorry, but I would be annoyed if I go through the hassle.

I put an email in, if I heard back before you do about your date confirmation...I'll write a nasty email ;-)
lol...luckily she finally emailed today and everything is all set! I want to be safe than sorry over the translation issue. Imagine getting there and you don't have it and you need it! Go to your state's govt website, and go to the Secretary of state page. There should be something right on it about Apostille's. They make it sound easy.

Okay,

So I got an email back from Karla and she said that the translation is NOT NEEDED. YEAH!!!

As long as I have that in writing, I should be okay. It also has the Italian Menu for private reception and answers to other questions in the email. Amy and Leah I will forward it to you if you want =)

Wow. Happy that we are doing all the legalities here in DC. The fiance used to work for a judge (who is now 93 and probably not going to make it down to Mexico), so he's going to do the official wedding. His sister can't go due to her babymaking skills (and bad timing), so she's going to go to the official wedding. If my grandmother can't fly to the actual wedding, she'll probably go as well.

are you ladies talking about for the legal ceremony (for the translation and all that?)

How far in advance did you guys pick your dates? we had to push ours back due to some family stuff but I am thinking April of 2011, but I don't want to have to reserve it now and put it a deposit down till I am sure. (there is still issues with the family, so there is a small chance we may not do mexico). Do you think a year in advance is enough time?

A year should be more than enough time. In fact, it may be too much time because we realized that some places will not allow you to book until they have the new rates out for that year. For an April 2010 wedding, we reserved our date in August. That said, we couldn't get any other Saturdays in April by then, so we're having a Sunday wedding.

I see some people on this forum that are looking to schedule an April 2010 wedding and have not yet booked. I'm not sure what kind of availability they have, but I know they're still trying. Good luck!

I think a year is plenty of time. Like Emmers said, most places won't even let you reserve the date until a year in advance.

Also, the Iberostar does not require a deposit!! Some resorts do, but the Iberostar will reserve your date and then officially confirm it once you have made your hotel reservation. I guess they figure if you have paid to come to the resort that is deposit enough for them.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
