I wanted to let you know that I had my wedding on Saturday at the Del Mar gazebo with the reception at the Tropical Restaurant, and I have some info you might find useful. We arrived last Tuesday around the time the whole swine flu panic started, and the Iberostar went from 97% full to 40% full and it's probably even less now. They laid off 1800 out of 3000 staff since so many people cancelled their trips. They're supposed to be laid off for 2 weeks, but it could be longer depending on if travel picks up. Sounds like everyone is still moving forward with their weddings, which is good since there is no swine flu down there. It's perfectly safe and blown out of proportion. We stayed at the Grand while our guests stayed at the Del Mar & Beach. Although it may seem like a huge hassle now, it might turn out better that you're getting upgraded to the Lindo/Maya - they're absolutely gorgeous! The Del Mar & Beach are beautiful too, but the Lindo/Maya and especially the Grand are much nicer. I'm sure they can offer you something comparable if not better than what the Del Mar offered. The gazebo at the shopping center is a bit smaller than the one at the Del Mar, but there is plenty of space for guests to sit surrounding it. The shopping center was dead when we went there so it might be a nice place for a private ceremony. I also saw the set up of a beach wedding at the Grand and it looked really elegant. If you can bargain with the WCs to let you upgrade to the Grand and have your wedding there, that would be awesome. The food at the Grand is really good. We ate at the surf & turf restaurant one night and it was fabulous. I haven't had time to post my review yet, but I definitely will. Although it probably won't be very useful since the Del Mar is closed for now. I have to say that Reyna was totally different in person than what I expected. She was willing to do whatever I wanted and she executed it perfectly. We had some issues with restaurant reservations earlier in the week and had a confrontation with her manager, Ivan (who is a total a**hole by the way), so I was worried the wedding would not go as I requested. BUT everything turned out better than I expected and it went off without a hitch! I used DJ Bob who was great, and Cecilia Dumas was my photographer, and I used Cecilia's new videographer. I haven't seen the pictures yet, but they were working their butts off trying to get good shots so I'm hopeful they will be good. The flowers even exceeded my expectations and I'd heard all kinds of bad things about those! If you girls have any questions in the meantime, feel free to email me at Stina168@aol.com. Good luck to everyone! I know you're stressed now, but it will all come together and be an amazing day so try not to worry too much!
I forgot to mention that I used Alexandro Zavala for hair and makeup and they were wonderful! All the BMs and my mom had their makeup done too and the guys were stunned by how great they all looked! More info to come on the review! Alexandro Zavala - Makeup Artist Hairstylist - Cancn, Mxico

I was adamant about wanting flowers covering the whole arch, and when they brought it out, they only had 3 arrangements on it! Luckily Charlie was there to tell them to fix it and add more flowers. It turned out to be gorgeous after they fixed it!

Oh Stina, I'm sooo glad your wedding went well. It is really beautiful at the gazebo. We upgraded to the Grand too for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it!!! They bend over backwards for you there. Really awesome food and decor too. We're going to go back there for our anniversary.

As for Ivan, I'm sooo glad to hear that someone has the same opinion of him as me. I started to think I was being unreasonable or crazy but now I know I'm not. He is a total A-@#@$. This guy should not be in Public Relations at all. I've already sent an e-mail to the resort and head office. (gorls, this has nothing to do with the wedding...just an incident that happened on another night)

The WC's at the Beach are awesome once you get there, Reyna and Yanin. So nice and accommadating. Loved them!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Stina, I'm so glad to hear this worked out for you!! I'm STILL irritated about my arch "decorations". Glad you were able to learn from my experience/mistakes so that your wedding could be perfect and exactly what you expected. Can't wait to see pics of it!! :)

Hi Ladies! I have been MIA for quite sometime. I'm so sorry to hear about you ladies and all the complications with this SWINE FLU!

I have a question:

Does anyone have the direct email for Reyna. I have been trying to contact her, FI called and spoke with her the other day and told us to send another email....no luck still....maybe my mail is getting lost in her spam?

Hello Everyone!

I had my wedding at the Del Mar on April 20th at the Gazebo. We rented the Tropical Restaurant for the reception and everything went perfectly. We used DJ bob and I would highly highly recommend him- he was fabulous! I also used Citlallil with Claudia Rodriquez's team and she was wonderful as well. I do not have my pitcures back yet but will post as soon as I do. Also the flowers were gorgeous. Reyna was great as well! She was very detailed and very accommodating. Do not worry she will take care of all your requests. I'm not sure how much help I will be as many of you are not doing your weddings at the Del Mar now with the closing but please email me with any questions you have about anything! jenw13@hotmail.com. As so many reviews have stated the Iberostar team truly does an amazing job at weddings. I will write my full review soon! Good Luck to everyone! Try not to worry/stress too much, your day will be perfect!

Gemstone, I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one who had a problem with Ivan! I have no clue how he is in charge of PR there. He has no customer service skills whatsoever, and he even told us "he didn't care how much we spent, it's not how they do things". I was like WTF?!?!?! This was an incident at our rehearsal dinner, not the wedding, so girls, don't worry! I'm writing a letter to the hotel and Funjet so they know how awful that guy is! Ivan showed up at our reception and my husband asked Reyna what he was doing there b/c he pissed off our whole family, and he ended up leaving thank goodness! Do you have the email for the resort and head office? I'd love to write them about Ivan. I hope he gets fired. Oh, and we told him we were going to tell everyone on the forum how horrible he was and he was like, "I don't care"! Can you believe him??

I miss the Grand sooooo much! The service there is impeccable! We were planning on honeymooning in Europe on our one year anniversary, but we're going back to the Grand instead! It's by far the best hotel I've ever been in!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
