Riu day Passes

Is anyone being charged for guests attending their reception that are staying on another Riu resort?

Our wedding/reception is at the Riu Bachata and we have 7 people staying next door at the Riu Merengue. They are not being charged to attend our wedding but I just read that they may charge us $35/pp to attend the reception (we chose the free package offered). They really didn't have to stay at the other resort and since I thought it wouldn't make a difference I didn't encourage them to stay at ours.

All RIU's state that 80% of all your guests must stay at the hotel (where the wedding is taking place) in order get married there. And for those guests that are not staying at the hotel, you must pay for a guest pass. Even your vendors need passes. Yours aren't expensive because the RIU that I'm getting married at is charging us $100 per guest pass (Yikes!). We're spending close to $700 on just passes sad.gif

The $35 (now $39 I think!) is if you are staying at one of the sister RIUs on the same complex - its just for dinner!! It's $100 for a day pass to the resort! So it is the same!!! What a bummer though!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
