Poll: Different Riu Locals

Recommended Posts

The Riu Montwego Bay opens at the end of the month...so no one has had a wedding there yet, but there are a few of us who have already booked RMB. I was thinking of starting a RMB date thread just like the ROR thread.

Which Riu: Montego Bay

Wedding Date:Feb 28, 2009

Strongest competitor(other resort): Dreams PV or Villamanga

Deciding factor: Got an unbelievable 'opening soon' deal...and I really wanted to go to Jamaica (paperwork is SO much easier)

Which Riu: ROR

Wedding Date: Jan 5th 2009

Strongest competitor(other resort): Riu Negril or somewhere in Maya Riviera

Deciding factor: I actually would have loved to do Montego Bay - but the timeline was too close and I wouldn't want to risk it. I chose ROR after hearing about it from so many brides here and seeing so many great pictures. We also went with Ocho Rios over Negril in general - due to my parents opinion that there will be more for guests to do in Ocho Rios (for those that like excursions and what not). I am still really excited for ROR - but if I were starting back at square one today - I would have done Riviera Maya due to price and value.

Which Riu: ROR

Wedding Date: April 21st 2009

Strongest competitor(other resort): Mayan Riviera first and then Riu Negril

Deciding factor:

Price was the best at ROR for the all inclusive package (better than Mayan Riviera and Riu Negril) and we had previously ruled out DR and Cuba.

Wedding package was best (Riu's in Jamaica offered Free package, not in MR)

Better beach in Jamaica than MR.

Big resort so our families wouldn't trip over each other

Seen pictures and lloved it.

Riu Negril/Riu TB more expensive.

Ocho Rios has more excursions.

Jamaica more "exotic", most of our friends have been elsewhere in the Carribean before.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
