Advice needed - my fiance wont let me pick his attire

Recommended Posts

My fiance is a good dresser and I don't think he will pick something silly. However, here is my question - how can he possibly pick out an appropriate outfit if he does not know what I am going to wear? He is refusing to let me pick out what he'll wear and I have no idea how to handle this. I guess I have a year and a half to warm him up to the idea that I should pick but i am wondering if any of you have had a similar situation and how you handled it.

Thanks in advance.

I am totally having the same problem but with only 9 months to convince him. I want him in a suit since my dress is not as informal as I thought it would be. He images himself in shorts/pants and a untucked shirt...My question is if I am getting the wedding of my dreams and get to pick what I imagine wearing on my wedding day why doesn't he? But to think of the 2 of us in our pictures 50 years from now it makes me sick to think I would be in a beautiful wedding dress and he will be in a untucked shirt and shorts :) but then I think if I am looking at those pics 50 years from now together does it really matter what we are wearing or does it matter that I knew he was happy and we didn't have to bicker over his outfit of all things.

So I guess what I am saying is... if he is a good dresser you should have faith in what he picks and maybe don't show him what you are wearing but show some similar pics from a mag so he has a clue what you will look like and what will match with you and your environment.

I told Ryan he could wear whatever he wanted... it is his wedding too. Just go with him and you all can decide together. Ryan and I went and he tried on different things. We decided together. What are you afraid he will pick? Really no matter what he wears it wont look bad. You can look at all the photos on here. Just let him feel like he is getting his way but go with him and it wil all work out

if your fiance is a good dresser then you can just say, "my dress is ivory" and he'll do his best. my husband is a good dresser, too and I gave him free reign on what he wanted to wear. In the end, I went with him and gave him input with his linen suit that he had made. I would worry if your fiance didn't really care about clothes and wanted to wear a tank top and cut offs! Its sounds like he's not that guy!

I felt the same way and this was the one thing we really argued about and that I maybe got a bit bridezilla about. In retrospect, I wish that I had been more respectful of his taste and his ability to get this done (and not try to be so controlling about it). In the end, of course, he looked great. His suit looked great which he picked with my brother and his best man - they all have good taste and I really should have just left it up to them.

I say trust him, he'll do a great job I'm sure and will love to surprise you the same way you'll surprise him. Maybe suggest he goes with a friend/family member for a 2nd opinion if you're still doubting (perhaps even show one of them your dress).

Thanks ladies. I so much feel better. I'll just tell him that his attire needs to be more formal than originally discussed because the dresses that I have been liking have been more formal than what I thought I would like. It's not that I don't trust him to pick out something nice, it's that I don't want him to pick out something that doesn't "fit" with the dress I get. If I could show him the dress beforehand I would have no issues. Unfortunately, this is not possible =0)

First i must say that this is his wedding day also. You both should be involved in the attire of the day. let him choose a few outfits that he likes and then you can put your 2 cents in. i am sure he will listen to your opinion regaurding how he looks on the big day. Unless he wants to look like a scrub next to you he will.

Honestly, I say he should be allowed to pick his own suit just like he's allowing you to pick your own dress. (what if he told you to get a really casual dress to match his outfit, you know?) I bet whatever he picks goes well. If you look at pictures of DW's sometimes the bride is fancy and the groom is in shorts, and sometimes the bride is in a simple dress and the groom is in a full suit. Anything goes and it's better to have a happy hubby than perfectly matched attire wink.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
