Hi Simistar thanks for your reply - its been very very helpful. I need to speak to the hubby-to-be and get his opinion.....he normally leaves it up to me anyway and just goes wiht whatever I say!! We might end up doing what you done or having a reception by the beach bar.

Thanks again for the info...much appreciated

Okay, so I was thinking about this some more:-)
While SMB only has one of the covered wood frame-thingy's... they do have LOTS of palapas on the beach.
So, you wouldn't get that exact set-up as in the Secrets Capri photos, BUT, you could probably have them do similar... (they'll probably charge you a price for it though:-))

But, once again, that one wooden covered frame is on the side of the beach where they do the wedding ceremonies...
So, if you're willing to go with just palapas being lit up (not covered wooden frame) you could ask for this set-up on the OTHER side of the beach, near the beach bar, with buffet food.
That way you would hopefully get good service AND close to the set-up you want.

As for all the cushions etc. they had on the beach in the Secrets Capri photos, I'm not sure SMB will have those. I had asked about those for our bonfire party, and while they provided mats to sit on, they didn't have cushions.
But you could always ask! Maybe by the time your wedding comes around, they will have this option:-)

Again (I mentioned this in my review), I will suggest that since you want something different than what is usually done at SMB, and if you have it in your budget -- hire an outside wedding planner/coordinator.
That way you don't have to worry about SMB getting it right...the wedding coordinator will do that for you and, I think, relieve a LOT of that stress you're feeling! :-)

Hi Simistar....that sounds like a good idea :) I think that could look really pretty with lights twisted round them :) I like the idea of having a bbq as food for the wedding reception so if we have our set up where you are suggesting then it is likely they will allow me to have one....i am not sure if the bbq would be extra or if that would be included in the price of the wedding.

unfortunately I cannot afford an outside wedding planner which is why I am counting on this forum to help me :) :)

Again thanks for your help.

You can choose from a couple different menus for your reception -- and I'm pretty sure a "bbq" option is one of them... Though I think you will have to be very specific with Cecilia if you actually want the food bbq'd in front of you (like a real bbq)... We chose the "caribbean theme bbq" menu for our beach bonfire party and I was kind of expecting someone to be bbq'ing some food, but in fact it was just bbq'd food set out in a buffet... So if you want someone to actually be bbq'ing, you sbould specifically ask Cecilia about that!:-)

Fair enough!
We didn't have it on our budget either... But if any brides-to-be DO have it in their budget, it's a good idea;-)
But that IS what we're all here for! smile03.gif

I was considering moving to the secrets maroma for my wedding as I was an Azul Fives bride who needed to move to another hotel....I am decided to stick with Karisma and move to the Eldorado Royale....wanted to thank you all for your help. Even though I am moving to the EDR for my wedding, I still love this hotel so much that I am planning to move to this hotel on my 3rd week instead of the hotel we have already booked (The royal cancun).

Hope everyone has a fab wedding!!

Just curious if anyone has advice for me - choosing between Secrets Maroma, Secrets Capri, and Dreams Tulumhuh.gif I would love to hear from someone who had a wedding at each location! There's so much to think about; I can't make a decision!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!

I got married at Secrets Maroma this past April. I would highly recommend it as a wedding location and especially to say that the Ocean Front rooms are totally worth the extra price! Our room was always kept, neat, tidy, and very clean. Cecilia can be a little slow on the response time for emails but I thought she was still a good WC. The videographer that is included in the Ultimate package is definitely worth the extra cost for the package, in my opinion. I love the location and beach at SMB. The resort was pretty busy when we were there but we never had to wait in line at the restaurants and no reservations were required. There are also no wristbands needed and the service was EXCELLENT.

If you have any specific questions feel free to PM me. I don't have my review up yet. sad.gif

Hi!

OK... here are my honest opinions, but I know everyone's taste is different, so it's a hard call. Honestly, I was not impressed with Secrets Silversands. Secrets Maroma was by far, the nicer of the two resorts. Here were my issues with SSS:

1) Service. The greeting when we arrived at the front entrace was far from welcoming. It's also a very "un-impressive" looking resort from the front. We waiting for a very long time for the wedding coordinator Lizette to greet us, even though we had a pre-scheduled appt. with her. When we arrived, she seemed surprised to find out that she had been scheduled to even meet with us. That said, she is very sweet and she really warmed up to us during the tour and was very helpful with any questions or information we requested.

2) Overall, I think the resort was already showing signs of "wear and tear", even though it's only about 1 year old. The guest rooms are pretty nice, but I much preferred the look and feel of Maroma.

3) The beach was VERY disappointing. If you want to get married on the beach, don't do it here. Maroma's beach is much, much nicer and much larger.

4) We were not offered lunch at SSS, so I didn't get an opportunity to taste the food, but we were offerered lunch at Maroma and it was excellent, as was the service.

5) Clientele was a little on the what I would call "questionable" side for a resort of this caliber. Seemed like more of a college party resort than a romantic wedding/honeymoon resort that is selling itself as catering to couples.

I had read quite a bit off trip advisor before we took the trip and I have to say that I agree with most of the negative reviews of SSS. I'm glad we went though and it helped confirm our decision to go with Secrets Maroma.

A fluke coincedence when we were taking the tour: I ran into a old friend of mine who just happened to be checking out that day from SSS. I haven't had a chance to speak with him yet, but he did mention that they enjoyed the resort. Again, it's really so much on personal taste. I know SSS is a little less expensive than Maroma too, so that may be a deciding factor. If you have the extra in the budget, I would say to switch to Maroma.

Hope that helps :)

I was recently married at Secrets Maroma Beach and the wedding was AMAZING! We had 45 guests and got married on the beach with cocktail hour following on the beach. We actually held the reception in the Spa courtyard. The weather held out, my pictures came out amazing, and Cecilia, the wedding coordinator, was wonderful. I thought she was very organized and she even went through the sequence of events with us 2 times prior to the wedding to double check everything. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone for a classy, fun wedding. All of our guests had fun and loved the resort. The service was amazing, too. My hair and makeup turned out great and all the flowers were awesome as well.

I know Cecilia has gotten mixed reviews from people, but we had no issues whatsoever. Though, we are a very laid back couple and did not have a lot of demands, if any really. We had a few things we asked her to set up for the reception (table decorations) and some vases for the ceremony itself, and we had no issues-everything looked great and was right where it was supposted to be.

If you are super-anal or want to be a very hands-on bride, I would not recommend a destination wedding in the first place, because you leave a lot of the details up to the resort. I personally liked that better b/c I got to hang out and have fun right up until the wedding!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
