BE AWARE: An instant BUDGET BLOWER....any ideas?

i put it right on my wedding website that there was an additional fee for the day pass if they weren't staying at the same resort. but 100% of people who have booked so far has booked the Melia. I also told them that it would just be fun being all in the same resort :)

This thread was dead and then came back to life! LOL

We too have informed our guest that they are welcome to stay wherever they please, however they are responsible for the day pass. Rather than spend $100 per person for our guests day passes, I would rather take them on an excursion or put that money towards hosting an activity for them. Since we are not asking for gifts, I consider a day pass their issue, not ours.

I think guests who choose to stay at a different resort need to pay their own day pass. Like another poster on here, we specifically took a looooooooooong time to review different resorts to get the best value for our guests. Of course, you can never meet everyone's pocket, but so far, everyone says the prices are reasonable--better than what they thought we would tell them. I only have one friend, my best friend, who is staying at another place because his aunt works for Hilton and he can get a huge discount. He'll only be paying about $50 a night so $150 plus tax for his 3 night stay. He can definitely pay the $100 bucks for the day pass. He expects to pay this so there's no problem.

My problem is... My resort requires 80 percent of guests to stay at the resort in order to have the wedding!

We are budgeting for 100 people to go.. So at first I thought, ok, the first 20 people to tell me they are staying off the resort can, and the others will have to stay at the resort. But, what if all 100 can't come? Then I promised those 20 can stay off the resort, but I will be over my limit with the resort!!

So, I just told my family that if they plan to go, they HAVE to stay at the resort. Now a lot fewer people think they can go. I thought I picked one of the cheapest resorts possible, and hate this whole rule!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
