Tipping etiquette

Recommended Posts

Did anyone find out what the etiquette is for if you are meeting your officiant right before a 10 minute ceremony? $100 seems a little steep especially since the vows are pre-written

this is a great thread as all of us need to leave some sort of tip to vendors. I am planning on getting tips ready in an envelope with a thank you note for the photographer, dj (if i hire one), mexican trio and musician for the ceremony. I will probably just give tips for the girl that does my hair, the wait staff and bartenders. I am not tipping the WC since Dreams adds that to the package price. I may only tip her if she goes beyond what is necessary. I am not sure about the minister yet.

I am looking for opinions-we have written our own ceremony (we are not using the standard one provided by the minister) so were planning on tipping the minister a little extra because he will be using our cermony script. Should my FI give him the tip before the ceremony and say something like "this is just an extra thank you for using our script" or should we tip him after? The reason I want to tip before is to ensure he uses our script or close to it. I didn't like the standard ceremony they had provided which is why we have written our own. any thoughts?

Great thread. I know we all wonder about this kind of stuff. Question ... do you tip each individual waiter I suppose and how do you know the percentage if it comes in a package? % of total package? AI make it so much for difficult.

I am with Randi, do you really need to tip the officiant if you are just meeting them and they are only there for 30 minutes??

I need some quick advice on what I'm planning to tip...my wedding is this Friday so a little over a day away. We are getting married on a beach just outside of Miami with 4 guests (plus our son so 5 total). It will be about a half hour ceremony plus pictures after and this was an all inclusive beach wedding package (included the ceremony, 100+ pics, arch with flowers, champagne and keepsake wedding plaque thing). Our coordinator is also the officiant and her husband is the photographer and they own the business. I was thinking of tipping them $50 and a thank-you card, but wondering if that is too cheap. I am having my hair and makeup done before at our rental house and have been told I don't need to tip a stylist not working in a salon since they already set their own prices and get all the profit. However I'm feeling like I maybe should tip for hair and makeup still (the cost is 160 for both) and was thinking of giving 180...any thoughts on this. Last question is for the photographer for the trash the dress photos we're doing in Curacao on our honeymoon. He is actually from the netherlands but was planning a trip to Curacao anyway, and booked a little early because he really wanted to do our ttd photos. We negotiated a price with him, and he will be driving us around the island for the photos as well. I want to tip him because he is going above and beyond but not sure how much. I was thinking 50ish...we do have a budget to stay on and already negotiated the price...thanks in advance for any tips or thoughts I get.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
