Tipping etiquette

Recommended Posts

Thanks for posting! I did a google search and came up with couple of articles

Destination Wedding Tipping Etiquette

Wedding Tipping Etiquette

But than I read another article by a WC who has a different opinion.

Sandy’s Destination Wedding Blog Blog Archive Guidelines for Tipping for Your Caribbean Destination Wedding

I think I'll probably do something similar to KLee147 and have some envelopes prepared ahead of time and just play it by ear and see how the service goes.

Wow, good questions, all! Needless to say, we all wonder the same thing. I guess I have some input and a question. I think that we should all budget some tipping money to our vendors and any others that we may want to tip- but we should also each be choosey and reserve the right to tip only those who exceed our expectations. That way we have the extra cash to make the decision, but only reward those who were truly helpful we'd like to give our appreciation to.

But, my question to you guys is... what to do if you have an all inclusive package from an all inclusive resort. Who do you tip then? do the same rules apply as if you have hand chosen each vendor?

This is EXACTLY what I am wondering. I'd love to hear from brides who have went the AI route and how they handled it.

I am going to an AI hockey and I am planning on tipping the vendors. I will probably tip the WC, mariachi band, and photographer. Of course we will tip the wait staff too at the reception restaurant. I don't know the amount yet because it depends on their service wink.gif

For the Wedding Day we tipped the reception staff-- they were fantastic and we gave them about 35% grat. We also tipped our bartender, and Cuban Trio the same.

We tipped our WC $100 for her help, and tipped out Photog $100 also. He actually ended up doing a free TTD for us, because he liked our look and wanted to use us in his portfolio.

It's tough, because in Cuba the wage is soooooo low, any extra tip is seen as above and beyond. Average wage lies between $17 and $25 cuc a month! (The cuc is par for par to the American dollar-- so you can imagine how low that is)

I would work out a percentage point for each service and then go from there. You can google typical percentages, but keep in mind the time they have devoted to helping you out on your special day.

oh boy.. seriously? I would never even thought of tipping my photographer, Im already paying him?! I still have never heard of that. You wouldnt tip a photographer at an at home wedding, so why there?!

Our wedding is at an AI and the people we were going to tip would be the staff, i.e. cleaning staff, waiters, servers, bartenders. They get paid such a low wage,t hey deserve a tip. We don't plan on paying people I have ALREADY paid (officiant, photographer etc). Since when does an officiant get paid to perform a ceremony?? Maybe i am way out of line, and im not a cheap person whatsoever. I dont know if thats wrong or not but I think thats really not necessary??

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
