Gown sought, gown bought, gown hated, now what?

Recommended Posts

OK Ladies, hands up:

Anyone buy their wedding gown only to realize that it is a beautiful dress, but it's not their dress?

This is so strange...I am usually such a careful, well-thought out person...I am learning that all bets are off when it comes to my wedding!

I bought a wedding gown, actually my mother bought it for me in June because I thought I LOVED it.

Well, It's August...and I LIKE it!!!

I have tried it on 3 times since and I feel pretty in it...but I do not feel beautiful.

Naturally, the gown is not returnable.

Just looking for some solace...anyone in the same boat about their gown?

Tell me your stories.....

We have lots of multiple dress brides.

I was one myself. I think I bought my dress too soon. It was the excitement of engagement, etc. I had gone shopping and really liked this particular dress. Well, I went home and found it on e-bay for $200. Naturally, I had to buy it. It's still in the back of my closet awaiting a photo shoot so I can attempt to re-sell it.

Even with my second dress, I had a few reservations. I think it was because the dress was over my budget.

Looking back now, I LOVED my dress and I can honestly say I felt beautiful on my wedding day!

This happens a lot. How much time do you have till your wedding? I say leave it alone for a while and in a few months try your dress on again, if you have time of course. And then see how you feel about it. You bought it so recently, so it just might be that you are nervous about it right now. I went through that and in the end I loved my dress, it was perfect for me. I just needed to put it aside for a while and not think about it too much. As women we tend to over think things and this is one of those things.

My dress experience is a little opposite. I bought my dress under duress and only LIKED it. There was never a time when I LOVED the dress. I kept looking for a dress that envoked the "this is it" feeling, but never had it.

I finally fell in love with the dress at my final fitting and on my wedding day, I felt like the most beautiful bride. My FI couldn't stop raving about how beautiful I was and how he loved the dress.

The end result (loving the dress and feeling beautiful) is NOT what I expected when I spent 8 months with ambivalent feelings about it.

I've been feeling the same way about my dress! You are totally not alone. I also bought my dress too early because it was the best one I had seen at the time and thought I had looked everywhere. There are parts of my dress I love and parts I would change.

I did the very same thing! I bought my dress months ago... and though I still love it (it IS a beautiful dress) It would have been perfect for a Catholic church wedding (as we had planned) but is WAY too dressy, IMO, for a beach wedding.

So I'll be posting it on "buy, sell or trade" one of these days...

This happened to me sad.gif I think my mistake was not only shopping too early, but bringing too many people with me. When they all loved the dress I bought, I thought I loved it too but I really didn't. It was an expensive mistake as I'm losing my deposit from canceling the dress. Figured I will lose just as much trying to sell it myself. I felt immense pressure shopping for my 2nd dress as it BETTER be the dress! Well I shopped alone and found the dress I love.

If you just bought it, it could just be buyers remorse. I had that feeling after I bought mine for a couple of weeks. But even tho I see lots of other dresses that I think are beautiful, I still put mine on and love it. I agree that if you have time before your wedding wait a little bit and see if your feelings change. If they dont, head out for another one!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
