At Home Receptions - with or without

Recommended Posts

I dunno, it's weird. It's like a given around here that you have a buck and doe. This is a pretty small town (20,000) so you put it in the paper for like a month at least before you have it, so people Chris went to public school with will show up just to say hi and meet me and stuff. We have been to countless Buck n doe's for people we barely know. LOL! We are pretty active in the community, so we expect at least 100 people to show up to this thing! It is a good opportunity for people we know but aren't close to to give their well wishes (by getting drunk on cheap drinks! I know.. it's bizarre!) I'm a city girl, so what do I know? Just go with it I guess!

My girlfriend is the master at organizing these things. She did one for her sister last year and she CLEARED $2500 cash for her! Pretty crazy!

Sorry for the hijack!

That's awesome Deb! Ok now I understand a bit more what type of reception this is. Definitley a cool one. I'm from a small town originally too and I like that idea. You could rent a hall... haha I was thinking like 10 people just forking out the money.... into our pockets. I know, pretty extreme?!

We are not doing a AHR.. if our families want one then they can organize and pay for it. I don't really see a need to have one of us, hopefully people will come to the wedding, we are giving enough notice. I'd rather spend our budget on making the DW the best it can be rather than something at home. We hired a pro photog for our DW so really want everything to be perfect, we probably wouldn't pay for a photog for an AHR anyway since the big day has passed.

  • 3 weeks later...

I don't want to have one at all, but unfortunately I am having 3. We are having the DW one, and then I am from NC, so one here, and my FI is from NJ, so one there! UGH

We are doing and AHR about a month after the wedding. It'll be big (around 300 people), but I'm hoping to keep it casual...much more of a party than a reception, with a Mexican theme. I'm thinking taco bar, sangria, Corona, margaritas, etc. Our family and friends are pretty crazy, and always up for a big party, so I'm actually looking forward to it...plus I get to wear my dress twice! I think that's what I'm really most excited for!

I wanted to have a bon voyage party = (FI calls it the Adios Party) to send us off to be married as well as sign all the documents etc to be legally married here in the states...but the money is definitely an issue. We are having such a small group in MX (20) and I really cant imagine not celebrating with my grandparents etc who cant go to mexico...definitely an issue in our house...$$$ drives you crazy...Plus SW Florida is so freakin expensive.

We are having an AHR. My sister is pregnant and cannot travel and we would like to have something for our grandparents attend since they can't make it to the wedding. We are going to do it at the State Park. It's so nice up there, they have a lodge. We are doing b-que and crab. We'll do it about 3 weeks after we get back...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
