We're doing it before we go....FI made the mistake of telling his parents this and his mom told me she is not "jazzed" to fly all the way to Mexico for a "fake" ceremony....I told her it was the only ceremony she would be seeing so if she wanted to see her son get married, I suggest she fly to Mexico! Oh, sorry for the rant! Had to get that out there sad.gif

I know we have been trying not to tell people that we're doing it here before we go, but sometimes we just have to tell people otherwise we'll be lying to there faces!

Courtney, there are also rules about how many days you have to be in mexico prior to a legal wedding, you should check with your TA about all of this.

Ya, I do know about the residency rules, blood test etc. Thanks though... if there is anything else you can think of please share!! I don't have a TA yet - we've just started most of the planning. I'm sure I'd find this out when I do get a TA, but its still nice to know before I plan too much!!

We decided to have the legal ceremony in Mexico. We are not that religious and we think that most of our family from the midwest and east coast will actually like the "Mexican flare" of the wedding being in Spanish and then traslated. Plus Dreams is now offering to do the blood tests at the hotel. They are going to come to our room! Very convenient.

Hi Tammy and any other brides from CA. ,when you did you legal wedding in Cali did it only take one day?
I'm asking because now FI and I have decided to do legal stuff in Cali and have non legal wedding in Cabo.
We are planning to have it on a friday (the wedding in Cabo) but was wondering since we are not doing it legal in Mexico can we both show up Thursday, do rehersal and rehersal dinner Thursday night and then Friday have wedding? FI wants to have honeymoon somewhere other than Cabo...so I told him this might be feasible. Then Sat. say adios to our guest and hop on a plane to honeymoon stay 4 days there and then fly back to Cali.....
He only has a week for vacation and wants to spend it wisely....He was complaining that we've been to Cabo several times and doesn't want to waste honeymoon there rant.gif So I told him we could probably do this......

Sorry so long...but do you think it's feasiblehuh.gifhuh.gif?

We went to Cabo first. Got married on Saturday. Flew home Sunday. Went to the courthouse Monday (took 30 minutes from paperwork to married). Went on our honeymoon on Tuesday. Got back from our honeymoon 10 days later and I went to the courthouse to get the copies of the marriage certificate and then over to the social security office to get my name changed.

Simple! And, I totally understand what you are all saying about it not being your real date or managing two wedding dates. I felt exactly the same way! However, now that we're back, neither one of us in any way think of the San Diego wedding as anything more than filing paperwork (which you would have to do anyway).

We're actually doing a bit of both. Our friend is actually the person who is marrying us. He's going to register online with the Universal Life Church. We will then just bring the paperwork with uws to Mexico and have him sign and date it then - the day of our wedding. We of course won't submit it until we come back. But the "marriage" date is whatever day gets written on that form.

Hi Kashmira,

I have a question...what do you mean you when you say...you won't submit until you get back? Do you mean submit paperwork to change your name?

I hope I am not missing anything. I called the courts here locally and was told if I were to get legally married in Mexico (which we are doing) that we did not have to file anything at the courts here.

we're getting legally married in CA (hopefully prior to our Cabo trip). my brother is 'marrying' us in cabo. I didn't think about the paperwork thing and having him sign it with the Cabo date - I have to look into that. great idea - kash.

A few people know we are doing this, as well as my family, but we cannot let his mom find out. She would not be happy (it's enough of a struggle to get her down there anyway!)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
