So, RIU has a thing where they say 80% of your wedding party must stay at the hotel....so invitations went out last week and come to find out they are booked SOLID!!! There is a convention going on, and the RPLA and it's sister hotel, RIU Cancun are both completely booked! I am so stressed out that they won't let us get married there!

* I've only spoken to our WC once, not to mention our origional WC is no longer working there.

*We aren't going to tell her exactly how many people are coming if it causes a problem...

*I'm worried that because they are full capacity, they won't even let visitors onto the site.

*IF the DO stay at another hotel, they will have to pay a DAY PASS fee of $100 and we just don't have it in the budget to help them pay!

Any suggestions of how to handle this? We just sent out information about OUR hotel with the invitations, and I'm nervous of what to say to friends and family!

OMG! I am not going to lie but this is not good. Don't panick yet. If you don't have a TA I would PM Tammy ASAP and ask her what she thinks you should do. I don't get it, how could they allow you to book a wedding that day and also have a convention but expect 80% of your guests to stay there? This just doesn't make sense. I would speak to someone and tell them that they should have to honor your wedding even if 80% of guests can't stay there b/c you relied on it. I'm assuming you didn't book rooms which is why there are not rooms for your guests. Hopefully your guests can stay elsewhere. And I know this really sucks but I think you are going to have to pay the $100 day fee. I know it is not in your budget but you will have to put it on a credit card or something. I'm so sorry you are going through this. I hope everything works out for you.

YIKES!! unfortunately resorts will let you book a wedding even if they know the resort is almost booked to capacity...i usually ask the resort how full they are before i book...if they tell me they are getting full i block rooms..

this sucks.. but do not panic.

how many of your guests have already booked.

1. call your TA and see if she can block rooms at another resort right away.

2. have your TA call the resort and b*tch about how your guests for your wedding will not be able to stay at the resort and what are the going to do about it...they better compensate you somehow...like no guest pass fees?

Hey Jen I'm really sorry to hear about your unfortunate news. THAT SUCKS!! I never even thought about what happens if the hotel hits capacity before people start to book. In your process of picking out which resort you wanted the wedding to be at did you have any other options other than the Riu? It may be good just in case to start thinking of something else. I dunno what you can do. Tammy gave some good advice about contacting a TA though, that's their job and they're there to help and assist your vacation. Hope everything works out.smile03.gif

I would imagine that they will have some flexibility about the 80% rule if the RPLA is booked solid. Maybe some of your guests can stay at the Riu Cancun or the Riu Caribe.. Both are still very close the the RPLA. Or at another resort and have them waive the day pass fee. I remember reading on here about someone who asked their WC about reducing the day pass fee and the WC ended up waiving it altogether. In an extreme case, maybe they can have some of your guests stay at one of the Riu resorts south of Cancun and provide some sort of shuttle service.

Thank you so much for your advice! I have been trying to get ahold of her but haven't contacted her yet. Tomorrow, I am going to speak to WHOEVER I need to, to try to resolve this. Hopefully this will be the only bump in our planning!!!

There is a convention, and I am hoping that they have just "blocked" out these rooms...maybe they will have cancellations and perhaps I can put my guests on a wait list...I think I now have grey hair because of this! BangHead.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
