I was thinking of hiring a photog in Mexico, but when I started looking at rates for flights, the prices were not much different. But then again, I haven't thought of contacting a TA for cheaper rates. Also, the photog I'm considering is from Southern Cali and I thought of exchanging the "day after" shoot which is included in her DW package for an engament session and thought I could drive to her area.

I'm still waiting to hear from her.

Her package includes, RD, 10 hrs wedding day, and a morning after shot. for $3,600

I think round trip from Cabo the flight would have cost about $250-300 dls and there are some pretty cheap new airlines in Mexico that only fly domestically... Check it out!

Oh Tammy you're so amazing with your great rates! A TA can definatley help ya out Amy. I know when i was looking I was going to use Aldo from PV Photography. His package wasn't too bad and he sent me some REALLY nice wedding portraits that weren't on his site anywhere. Now we have our own photog comming for the wedding. WOO HOO!!! If you're interested in Aldo I can PM you his packages and those portraits. It may be worth checking out.

Thanks Tammy! I know I can count on you, but I know you've been swamped lately :)

That doesn't sound too bad, know I need to convince Hanssel that its worth the money!

nothing. Ours included his travel fee for him and an assistant in the price. Can you find someone who will include their travel?

There are a few up-and-coming LA photogs that might be willing to do it for very little up-front. I can PM some of their contact info to you if you are interested.

you are probably still paying for travel though. Did he quote you a rate with travel?

Usually, If someone is wanting to hire me I will put together a custom package that includes travel, but it's just a package with a travel fee added to it, based on what the client wants. I can be pretty flexible with my rates sometimes so sometimes it's not as expensive as you think it might be when adding in travel costs.

The thing is, you REALLY need to check out different photographers, their rates and what's included in their packages, and figure out what you want. Keep in mind the amount of time the photog is offering, and also add in any extra costs there might be for adding in things you want like an album, digital negs, etc. Then ask them for travel cost and total cost package quotes before you make any decisions. Even though one photographer may have a more expensive package, it may be cheaper to hire them in the long run.

I am actually pretty sure that we are not paying for travel. Our photographer gave us one of his most expensive packages (locally) for about $2k less than we would pay here and offered to pay his own travel. So I am sure that we got a smoking deal there. Especially since a couple of weeks later he booked another Cabo wedding, and the other couple paid all of the travel - we just happened to contact our photographer at the right time, I guess.

Our photographer's (2) travel expenses are the following:

                Airfare 1046.
                Room 876.

By the way that's for 3 nights at Dreams as well. That way we don't have to pay for meals, it's included.

I've actually been comparing this photog to other packages and, as I said previously, she gives you your money's worth, but I don't really need the RD shots not the day after. Honestly, I am looking for complete wedding coverage (10hrs) and the cd/dvd for prints, retouching... I think thats the main thing..
