Great to hear you're all OK! I've never experienced an earth quake but I know I would probably freak out.

Ahhh..yeah the aftershocks are awful. Here in Reno we have been having earthquakes over the past couple of months....usually they are small ones that you can't feel but for a few days last month or in late may we had larger ones all the time...it makes you so nervous. We lived with things off our walls for a while.

Thanks for worrying guys and thanks for the message Jay I was sleeping and it woke me up, the bed was rolling/shaking. My dog was in her bed sound asleep so I figured if she was cool it wasn't that bad and I went back to sleep LOL

 

About 40 minutes ago my phone went off with voicemails and texts from a few hours ago (major delay) that's when I knew it was big. I'm just glad I wasn't at work on the 8th floor because evacuation would have sucked!

 

When I heard the epicenter was Chino Hills I thought omg Yari! I hope all is well at home girl!

Sorry you're here for this! You'll have good stories to go home with! An aftershock is another earthquake or 5 or 10. From my experience they are usually smaller but can totally be bigger. Sometimes you don't even feel them. If there is another one stay away from windows/heavy ceiling fixtures if possible.

The last I heard it isn't safe to stand in door jams like they taught us in school, and they are also saying hiding under a table/desk can trap you if the ceiling falls. My mom had to do a recent earthquake training where the fireman said to get between 2 spaces if possible, like the space between 2 counters or anything with a space basically, and cover your head with your hands. He said they have found more people dead/trapped under tables and beds than anywhere else and if you do what they say you have a better chance of crawling out if something falls. So basically steer clear of what you can and pray that nothing falls!

wow this is so scary...I was talking to one of the ladies in one of our service centers in los angeles and she seemed so calmed about it...she's almost in her 60's and says she's been through a lot of them....she still hid under her desk though, i guess that's what she's used to. Glad everyone is okay. I cant imagine what that feels like.

I haven't felt an eq in a while now that I live up in Sacramento but when I was younger I lived in the bay area and we felt them all the time...including the big one in 89 that broke the bridge! That was SCARY!

 

It is so funny to hear midwest and east coast people talk about how they are so scared of quakes because I'm not so much scared of them since I have been in them but yet hurricanes and tornados scare me to death!!! It's funny!

Yay - an '89 quake survivor! Me too!! That was a massive quake. Standing on solid ground felt like riding on a boat going through a bad storm. I remember our whole block being out in the street all night with candles/flashlights because the power was out and we were scared to be in our houses with all the aftershocks....it was really unbelievable.

I feel the same though - give me an earthquake over a hurricane or tornado any day. At least devastating earthquakes don't happen every year on schedule. All of it is bad really, darn mother nature!

I just got back from cheer practice and some of the mom's had lots of damage. I feel so lucky, not one thing broke!

 

There are so many news vans here it is funny. I wonder what they are waiting for...

Yikes Yari! I pulled out the emergency manual at work tonight to plan the best escape because I'm in charge of evacuating if we get a big enough quake...hoping we don't with me 8 floors up!
