We got married on the 9th of June at Valentin Imperial Maya. I was really nervous about the Valentin. I had the resort booked for a year. I never had to pay an $800 deposit. I had my TA check several times that our wedding date was still confirmed. It was kinda chaotic.

After arrival, I had an appointment to meet with the wedding coordinators (2) on Saturday at 10am. Everything went well. I was able to pick my flowers out from pictures they had online. I didn't find what I wanted there so I custom made my own. They arrived to my room at 2pm on my wedding day and we beautiful and just what I asked for.

We did the private reception in the LObster Pot. People were eating in that restaurant. However, we were off to the side in a private area with 2 waiters. We had our own sound system. Everyone said that you couldn't hear the music while dining in the Lobster Pot. We cut our cake here because we wanted to use the beach for additional picture time. The private cocktail party was in the Gazebo. Everyone was there while we finished taking our pictures. They said the food was great. The WC didn't want to serve liquor there. Not sure why, but I laid out my requests and stated that if we couldn't get them met, we would be happy to take them off the resort and do the reception somewhere else. After this mild threat, I got everything I wanted. They set up a full bar at the Gazebo. The dinner at the reception was great. FOur Courses...all of them delicious.

The cake- I originally ordered the chocolate. The WC messed up and sent a 3 milk cake. I am very happy for the accident. The cake was wonderful. They send it to your room after the wedding so we ate some the next day.

All of the small details were really taken care of. I was very impressed by this. The people showed up to get the dress and the suit on time for pressing. It was returned by 1pm. They breakfast in bed the next day...they called just like they were supposed to. They wedding CD was playing at 4:30 on the beach for the wedding guests to listen to. Both coordinators were at the wedding and stayed with us until dinner was served. Any problems I had I just told them and they fixed it right away.

Flowers. I ordered a bouquet of 3 gerber daisys and one tropical flower for my bridesmaid. It was almost $90. So, be careful if you are ordering a lot of extra bouquets.

It seems like they are disorganized, but I think they do a fabulous job. I have seen destination weddings at Barcelo and it did not go nearly as smooth. All of the small details were not taken care of. So, I am really happy with the results.

The wedding photographer...Marco...he is amazing. We had some really good shots and we had some just okay shots. However, our package came with 36 photos...I have showed most of my family and they all are in amazement of how good they are. (I can't figure out how to post pics on this website or I would. I have tried a few times)

Let me know if you have any questions. Feel free to email me at h_rosenthal99@hotmail.com. I will write a resort review on trip advisor today and see if I can post pics there.

Hope this helps

Hi all!

I'm getting married this November in Riviera Maya...my fiance and I are pretty set on the valentin for the honeymoon. Now we're trying to decide which room category to stay in. The pricing tends to vary quite a bit from what we've been quoted. For those of you who have been there, what room category did you stay in? Any advice is appreciated.

TIA!!!

Jennie and CNC,

As I promised, here are my thoughts on EDR vs. VIM, but i can speak more of why I chose VIM as opposed to why I didn't chose EDR. For me and my fiance, we wanted to get married on a beach. And EDR, as pretty as it is and as good as the food is reported to be (I've never stayed there), it has these HUGE ugly sand bags in the water. I didn't want to see that when I was getting married (or have it in my pictures.)

I have stayed at VIM and am going back there next month for our site visit. It is HUGE and secluded, which i really liked. There are many places to meet your guests and hang out. The beach is where we want to get married but if it is raining, the chapel is beautiful too. I wrote a fuller report earlier in this strand with more reasons. Feel free to check that out. If you have any more questions, let me know!

Hello ladies. As mentioned before, Ariadna has been very responsive to all of my emails. She mentioned that the beach setup includes chairs with covers and a table with covers. She said that flowers are not included in the beach set up and that they are extra cost. Did anyone pay extra for the flowers?

The cake picture she sent is the really cute one with the starfish on it. She said that they come in chocolate, vanilla, and Mexican three milks. Could anyone recommend the best flavor??

She also sent me the two flower catalogs. If someone would like to look at these, please let me know and I can email them to you.

soontobepowers (or should I say Mrs. Powers): did they set up the sound system on the beach and at the restaurant? I am planning on bringing my ipod to play during dinner or the ceremony with our little dock.

Thanks for all the help girls!!!

Sarah,

The flowers on the front table you see in my pics are the boutique that was included in my package. I brought my own flowers so I used their boutique as decor.

Yes they set up the sound equipment at the ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner. The sound guy was present at the ceremony and cocktail. The equipment was present at everything. We did use our ipod.

Ariadna recommends the chocolate cake. We had the Vanilla and it was great. I think Hailey had the Mexican 3 milks and said it was great. I would pick based on what you like.

*I posted some more pics on my review!

Hi Jen,

If you just do a search for Valentin Maya, her thread of the review is one of the results. That was the quickest way for me to find it. Let me know if you still cannot find it.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
