I am in the process of booking my photographer. I am using Cecilia Dumas.. she has great reviews and the price is good! She wants a 10% down payment to reserve the date. She asked me to wire the money to her bank and gave me the account number and such. Has anyone ever wired money before? How does it work? I'm assuming this in not weird to wire money to vendors, is it?

You can wire money through your bank. I was asked to wire money for the deposit with our resort but I felt funny doing so especially paying the fees. There is a thread I posted with the same question on this forum and a few girls gave good suggestions so check it out. You could always ask her if she would take a credit card payment, that's what we worked out w/our resort in the end instead of doing the wire transfer.

Our date at the VIM is booked for June 18, 2011. It still feels so far away! So far we've paid an $800 deposit to VIM in order to save our date. I'm working with a travel agent who has been extremely helpful so far. We paid a deposit of $1500 (or $75 per person) to lock in rates for 20 guests. I have NO idea how many people will be in attendance. I have a pretty big family so we might have to reserve some more spots. I'm going to start working on our save the dates this week. These are the save the dates that I've had my eye on (think blue instead of pink)

Things are moving slowly for now, but I'm sure it'll pick up as our date nears.

Two ?s for VIM brides: 1. We want a short ceremony starting at 5:00. Is 5:30 too soon to schedule cocktail hour? I'm imagining us having pics made while guests begin cocktail hour. I want them to be constantly entertained and don't want a long lull between the ceremony and the next thing; however, Ariadna said they typically would begin it at 6:00. 2. Did any of you find that you wanted to change into a short (or lighter weight dress) for the reception. I love my dress but am afraid I'll be super hot if I wear it all night and don't want to be miserable. Our date is Oct 9 if that makes a difference.

Very cute STD indeed!

Even if your ceremony is set to start at 5 it will probably be a few minutes late. Most of the packages include a champaign toast on the beach, as did ours, which took a good 30 minutes. People will want to hug and congratulate you and your new hubby, and you'll probably want a few photos taken with vim people (like parents and such).

Our ceremony was set to start at 4 (this was before their time change) and I was bit late, so by the time I got down there it was about 4:30. The ceremony took a little less then 30 minutes as I wrote my own ceremony and it was a tad long. Then we had the champaign toast and took tequilla shots on the beach, took group photos, and then everyone else went on their way to the gazebo for cocktails and appetizers.

I would agree with Adriana, 1 hour is ample time to get everything accomplished and not feel rushed.

No I did not want to change into a another dress! I loved my dress and once the sun started to go down a bit I was more then comfortable. Their is always a good breeze going through the resort too.

I'm getting married at the Valentin next May! We just did a site visit, and also loved the chapel. I took some pictures if you're interested...let me know. I highly recommend the resort...they were super flexible with us and will pretty much do whatever we want. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

It looks like there are a few of us getting married at the VIM next summer. I'm so glad to have found other brides who are going through the same planning process!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
