Laura what is your wedding date? I know that during winter months most people go to their rooms by 6pm. I have been to Mexico few times during winter and we would always go to our room by 5pm because the sun goes done and it gets chilly in the water.

Its rocky but not so rocky that you can't swim.............the sand is wonderful and you will still love it.......and so will your guests!

Dreams is a great place to get married.  I have been to a few weddings there and they are always beautiful!  Two of my girlfriends got married there and they hired Scott Brown for pics   http://www.scottbrownweddings.com/Home.html   and Bijan Zade for music http://www.mayanvibes.com/.  Both brides were extremely happy and now one is coming back for her cousins wedding..........they are contagious aren't they!!!   I would recommend both guys for their services and Dreams is a beautiful classy resort - you will not be disappointed!!  Breath and Enjoy!

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello Everyone!!

Steve and I are getting married January 17th at Dreams Tulum. We are getting very excited but I am getting a bit stressed out about a few things. First, Dinner reception starts at 630pm. There is no negotiating this, I have tried!!! But how long does it take to serve a 4 course menu? I would think 2 hours, half hour per course... That said, I dont feel like there is enough time for dancing and partying!!!! That really is my biggest concern!!!! Any thoughts on this issue??? Secondly, did any brides get some quotes on centerpieces and what did they look like? They sent me the wedding guide with quotes from $65-$130 per centerpiece!!! And I did not get any pics! Do they have cheaper options? Can you send a pic and have them replicate it???

Hi Trista,

I wrote a reply to you and someone lost it! So I understand your frustration in regards to the flowers. I did receive the attachments from Natalia with the photos so I have attached them for you. You are getting married two weeks after us so I can let you know how things work down there. From what I have read, it shouldn't be that big of a deal to extend your reception an hour or so...tipping your waiters I have read helps. I know a lot of past brides has said that the disco is pretty good...depending what night of the week it is. I am sure you will be tired by midnight...funny how the heat does that to you!

Decor- I will post a photo for you tomorrow of what I am doing for centerpieces. I spray painted tall round aluminum containers red. We will put sand in them and use them to hold the bridesmaid bouquets and my bouquet. This will be part of our decor. I am also going to email Natalia this week about renting square or rectangular vases. I am making fabric pomanders that I plan on putting in the vases on top of sand and painted shells. I am also going to price out green orchids like in the bm bouquets and possibly put them in the square vases with turquoise gel/beads(our other color). We are getting two free centerpieces with our ultimate wedding package.

I wouldn't mind your thoughts on my ideas for decor for the canopy. Are you getting married on the beach?

I don't want to bring tons of fabric but if they think they are going to charge me 400%$ or so for just the fabric, forget it!

I attached a photo of what I am thinking, white fabric that is hung to look like curtains, a bit of turquoise tulle/organza and red flower garland(I am making)

Happy planning!

Ann-Marit

The quote I had for a very basic white material to simply hand down (I believe like setup #12 in the book) was around $300 (includes material and setup) or $150 if I brought the material myself. I'm still trying to decide which way to go. I checked a fabric store and to get enough organza material it was going to run me about $120....

Hi Sheena,

What book are you talking about? Is this part of the package they send you two months before your wedding? We get married Jan 4 and this is one of the last resort things i am worrying about. I have been pricing out tulle...I like organza but have you priced out online too? i may order mine online as it is hard to find organza or tulle in the turquoise that I need.

If you can let me know which book you are refering to, I will request it from my wedding coordinator. Thanks!

Sorry, it wasn't a book - it's in one of the attachments you just put up, under the arch decorations - the email they send out about two months ahead of time. I said I just wanted the material, nothing else for that setup, and the quote was $300. I've got to say, my desire to keep costs down is waning with just over a month to go. Even though it's highway robbery, I feel like I'll cave to avoid having to worry about it.

Also, if anyone is getting married near my date (nov 24), there's 26 white paper lanterns I would love to not have to bring home with me. Pm me if anyone's interested.

Trista, I got married in March at Dreams Tulum and we also had our reception start at 6:30, dinner went along quite quickly and we had a few speeches then we danced, I think we went until about 11, it worked out well, I wouldn't worry about it, after that a few people went to the disco for a while, the disco is nothing special though. As for the centerpieces I sent them pictures I found online or in magazines that I liked and they recreated them, they didn't look like the ones I sent at all though, they were pretty and at that point I was ok with it, bottom line is that anything custom will cost an arm and a leg, I also sent a picture of teh bouquet I wanted, they created it exactly but it cost $400! Don't worry about anything it all works out great in the end! I attached my wedding photos link, I had a photographer come from Toronto, the best thing about an outside photographer is that, well, for one they are a million times better then the resort one, and two they can take you on a trash the dress shoot the following day and there are some beautiful areas outside the resort that are gorgeous for shooting! Have fun, I wish i was going back!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
