The new Dreams Tulum thread! (Post all DT Qs&As here)

Recommended Posts

We booked both our ceremony and reception on the beach and it couldn't have been more perfect! We did go ahead and splurge and get the dance floor for 30 people. It wasnt huge, but it did it's purpose. We only had 25 people at our wedding but actually having a smaller dance floor made everyone get closer together! Ill post some pics as soon as i figure out how to, lol

I have a question for all you brides - we have booked our DJ now for our ceremony and reception but were planning on having the reception on the beach. Did anyone do this? Did dancing on the sand work? And can the DJ set up everything ok on the beach?

We just got back too...I plan on posting a review soon. All in all, the wedding was pretty wonderful--only a few hiccups.  To future brides, make sure you bring bug spray.  The mosquitos for our beach reception were killer!!!  I've been to Mexico in April and May and the mosquitos were fine.  They were brutal on June 11.  Natalia was our wedding coordinator and she was just okay...all the details were taken care of, but there was a huge miscommunication for the flowers.  She picked the flowers I specifically said I did not want.  Oh well.  They were just flowers and I handled it pretty well.  The other issue was the champagne...we ordered enough for 20 (as per our package) and when I ordered it at the reception, they refused to bring it, saying we had drank it at our cocktail hour--which we had not...some people had ordered glasses at the lobby bar, but that was at all.  Very minor issues overall.  I am very happy with everything else, even the resort photographer.  I wish I would have purchased additional time.  Teo was a great photographer--a little posey, but they turned out really nice.  We hired DJ Bijan--he was fantastic.  He played all of our favorite songs and then some.  He really had the party going and didn't talk too much.  I give him an A hands down.

Hi everyone!  I'm having my wedding July 5th with ceremony and reception on the beach.  My heart was really set on having the reception at the seaside grill because my fiance wanted beach and my mom wanted ballroom so I thought it would be a perfect compromise.  The only problem is that I only have 30 guests (the minimum to have it there is 40).  Aurora shot down my request to have it there even though we were willing to pay the extra fee.  Does anyone know if they are more willing to negotiate about this once we get there?  Also, will I be able to go over the flowers with the florist once I get there and maybe look at them too?  I don't have a lot of time to look through pictures and learn the names of flowers so I was hoping I could look at the flowers they have and just choose what I like.  I'm very stressed about all of this, I didn't realize until I started reading these threads that I would need to bring my own decorations and tulle, now I'm feeling like I need to start writing the ceremony too.  Please help!

Hi everyone

So after months of debating H2B and I have decided to get married here at DT. YAY!!! We cant book just yet but are hoping to tie the knot early next year at the latest (I may have to change my username ;).

It was between here, Secrets Silversands or Secrets Maroma Beach for the wedding and it has been quite heated at times but we have a couple of little nieces who might come so we had to exclude adults only. We intend to spend a week here and a week after the wedding at Secrets Maroma Beach. Im still a little concerned about the rocky beach at DT (my only concern really) but Im sure Im just worrying over nothing!

Anyway, im wondering if any of you ladies have planned a surprise for your H2Bs for the wedding day? I really wanted to do something special for mine and am buying him a nice watch but I really wanted to do something extra (after all he has given me a fabulous ring and he is so lovely). When we planned to get married in the UK I planned to surprise him with a helicopter ride to the hotel but have had to drop that plan.

Looking forward to getting to know all you ladies and share tips!

To ease your worries about the rocky beach...the sand itself before entering the water is not rocky.  It's actually in the water directly in front of the resort that it's really rocky.  I hurt my foot once headed out to the water trampoline.  However, there are beautiful non rocky portions of the beach, not far away at all..

Does anybody know if you have the reception by the pool do you have to pay $750 set up fee? I am not having a lot of guests so we are thinking about going with the free package and just reserving a table in the restaurant and paying the $25pp. Now after reading few posts I am thinking about having a small reception by the pool and picking the silver menu but I am not sure if we have to pay $750.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
