The sand is soft! My husband and I both went barefoot and so did our little flower girls and ringbearers. The sand was not hot at all. It was absolutely awesome to be barefoot!!

I am interested in doing the ruins and snorkeling with my guests. I noticed that you can book online before you get there, but I think remember reading somewhere in this thread that it might be cheaper to book through the hotel or pay at the gate once you are there. Do you have any recommendations on this? I am looking for the cheapest option. Also, did you guys do a guided tour? If so, is that worth it?
It was a $7 cab ride to the ruins and $7 to return. It was 51 pesos ($5) to get into the ruins. I'm not sure how much the guided tour is....it seemed like a lot of people were doing that, but you are able to book that at the entrance of the ruins. There were also a lot of people not doing the guided tour. I think it would be nice to do the guided tour if you have a group. They have english speaking tour guides, so no worries on that front. You can book everything at the resort too. They are very helpful. There are a bunch of different excrsion options for going to the ruins. We talked to the Amstar rep at the resort and it looks like the prices online on their website are similar to the ones that they offer at the reosrt. (Amstar dmc Mexico. Mexico is a treasure trove of exciting, fun, adventurous, romantic, cultural, family oriented & educational experiences.) If you look under water activities, we did the Mayan Adventure which is a snorkeling excursion with 3 different drop points. It was pretty cool. I've never snorkeled and I really enjoyed it. If you look under adventure, we almost did the Tulum Xtreme which includes a guided tour of the ruins, ziplining and rapelling. We decided to just go see the ruins because we didn't have a lot of time.

I think you could go either way as far as booking (online ahead of time or at the resort). I do recommend going to the ruins first thing as it gets pretty crowded. The ruins open at 9am and I would recommend getting there at 9am.

I hope this helps. PM me if you need further details or anything else I can help with.

Yes, it is near the gazebo by the seaside grill. It is far enough away from the gazebo so it will not take away from the privacy of it. How many people will you have? It may work if you have less than 10, but even then it might be too small. I should have taken a pic of it!

It gets pretty windy even by the pools. There's always a chance if the paper lanterns are not held down by something heavy that they will blow away. petals will definitely blow away. I used different sized starfish on my tables around the centerpiece and it looked really pretty. I ordered them from orientaltrading.com. If there was a way to use tape or some sort of adhesive to hold the petals to the table cloth, that might work. Not sure how tape sticks to table cloth material.

Hi. When we did our site tour in December, there was a wedding setup that had a sand-colored runner. I am not sure if Dreams provided it, but I really like the look it created up to the "alter."

I hope these photos come out, I had to resize them 15 times in order to make them small enough to upload. I'm trying to research how to add photos....I'm going to need to know this for my planning thread. :)

Just in case, I uploaded them to Flickr as well:

here is good advice I just found on Katie's planning thread...from Sunbride...

You should get a photobucket account to upload your pictures. It's really easy to use (there is a thread of instructions on this forum. see below). Then you can upload the rest of your planning stuff, and also post pictures of your wedding.

Thanks! I'm happy to share templates if you're interested. Just PM me!

Also, I finally posted the link to our pro photographer's entire gallery. I was thinking that it might be helpful for brides to see the lighting/darkness in our photos by the relaxed pool. The link is now in my signature, but this is it, too:

Kristina and Matt Presented By http://www.leografia.com/

In these pics, you'll be able to see pictures from:
- Our welcome dinner at DT's Caribbean party which includes tons of pics from the fire dancer show (under "day before").
- Our cocktail hour at the Patio Terrace (at the beginning under "reception")
- The lighting at our relax pool-side reception ("Reception")
- I'll give a warning that some pictures near the end of the "reception" folder will seem strange for a wedding reception. It downpoured rain at our outdoor reception (right after our first dances) and we had 42 crazy/loving guests with us. Near the end of the pics, we are drenched! Some guests were already soaked, so they jumped in the pool, someone rescued our cake (which we ate with our hands at El Patio) and then we all moved to the disco to dance the night away (so you can also also see photos of what "Desires" the disco looks like). It was strange and not as we planned it, but it was our wedding (and I loved it as it was).

Hi, I'm in the process of choosing a resort but before I do, I'd like to do a site visit since my potential wedding date won't be till sometime in the fall of 2011. Did DT provide a discount for accomodations due to a site visit for potential wedding venue? I've read on websites that some resorts either give you a free night stay or at a discounted price.

All suggestions and information from all would be greatly appreciated :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
