My husband and I just got back from Mexico on 3/6. We took a cab from Iberostar in Puerto Morelos to Dreams Tulum and it was $65 plus a tip. Iberostar is about 15 minutes from the airport so it's probably at least $80 or so plus tip for a cab from the airport to Dreams Tulum. Renting a car one way might be an option for him. I think we found one online for $75.

For those on here who are thinking of booking a group trip to the Tulum ruins from the resort, a cab is $7 one way plus tip. Also, to get into the ruins it is $51 pesos ($5) and you MUST pay in pesos. You can also pay for a guided tour, which is more, but we did not do that. They have little boards with information written on them that tell you about the different ruins.

Another beauty service that nobody ever talks about is manicures/pedicures for beautiful wedding hands. On the first page Sunbride said all brides were NOT happy with this service. Is this still true?

Trinidad was my hair and makeup person in May 2009. She was really great. Made my hair really pretty and my makeup very natural, made my eyes look fab. a little heavier makeup, might need to soften a bit, but overall very great. Not sure if she is still around there or not. You can always email the spa and ask if she is still there.

As far as mani/pedi's....NOT GOOD AT ALL! It was like they never painted a toe or nail in their lives! And they did not speak english very good or at all. They did not know how to buff and file either. I would suggest getting it done before you get there if you can. My MIL and SIL just got their nails painted and they were very displeased. It looked like a child painted them! So, my recommendation would be to do it before you get there.

Hola!

My husband and I just returned from our first trip to Dreams Tulum since our wedding last May 09. We got back on 3/6. Everything was fabulous! It was very crowded this time for us as last year we were there during swine flu which spoiled us because the resort was so empty.

Just a reminder that during the days if you want to sit by the pools or on the beach with everyone in your wedding party, you MUST get there super early, by 9am to reserve chairs. By 10am there was not a chair available. Just throw some magazines or books or shoes on the chairs. we reserved chairs before we went to breakfast at 8am and there were definitely some reserved already.

I did notice they were building this sort of wooden deck just south of where the wedding gazebo is. It looked like it is going to be for private dinners. It was being built close to the woods/jungle. There were stairs leading up to it. Again, it was in the early stages of being built, so I'm not sure exactly what it is, but it really looked like it might either be for private dinners or maybe it will be an outdoor massage thing. Thought I'd give you all an update on that.

Also, the temperature during the day averaged about 79-80 degrees and at night it averaged around high 50's-60 degrees. It was actually quite chilly in the mornings until about 9:30-10am and at night from 6:30/7:00pm on. I had to throw my jeans and hoodie on one night it was so chilly. It was very different from my May 1, 2009 wedding where it was almost 90 everyday and the nights were warm. Just a heads up on that for brides getting married in the month of February 2011 and beginning of March 2011. Pack a few sweaters and long pants.

We did see one wedding at the resort and I felt so bad because it was so chilly that night (50 degrees) and they were sitting outside eating. They also had this music video thing playing on the beach on a big screen and it was quite loud. I'm sure the wedding party heard it. So, just confirm with the WC that there will not be any loud movies or events going on close to your reception. The reception was at the activities pool. We didn't even want to eat outside that night at the caribbean party it was so chilly so we ate inside at one of the restaurants.

One last thing....don't forget BUGSPRAY! If you are like me and the bugs like your blood, bring bug repellent and also anti-itch relief cream for when they do get you. It would be cool if you are making welcome bags to throw some in there for your guests. They do sell bug repellent at the resort but it is quite pricey.

I think that's it. The resort is still the same beautiful place I remember. We actually got to go to the Tulum ruins this time. They were closed down because of swine flu when we were there last year. Very beautiful. Highly recommend seeing.

There is also a snorkeling excursion where you go to three different drop points (2 cenotes, one outside and one in a cave and the ocean) that is quite amazing. They can book it at the hotel for you. It was a ton of fun.

Everyone is so friendly at the resort. The entertainment staff will peer pressure you into participating in all of the activities. They are a lot of fun.

Best,

Katie

" the hotels environmental policies no longer allow bonfires."

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
