My guess is people either brought them in their luggage anyways, or went and bought them in Playa del Carmen (maybe at Walmart?). I suggest you post this question in teh general Mayan Riviera sub-forum. There are tons of other brides who got married in the region who might be able to answer that for you.

Have you checked the bride list on page 1? You will see all the photographers all the past brides have used, there are a ton of differnet ones. There are also links to their photos but the links don't work (due to the server change) but if you do an advanced search by usernames for those brides you will find the new links to their photos.

has anyone asked about floating candles in the pool for the reception?

has anyone gone to the Sam's Club in Playa del Carmen to get supplies (tiki torches, etc)?
Yes the "gazebo" is included with all wedding ceremonies even the free package.

I don't think anyone has ever had floating candles in the pool. You should ask the coordinators about that.

Many people go to walmart in Playa del carmen to get supplies. It's likely cheaper than paying excess baggage fees, or getting stuff through the resort.

"Your review is great! One question you switched from ultimate to the free package...if you don't mind sharing what did you pay for the set-up fee for the ceremony and what all did you have put up?"

We didn't have to pay a set-up fee for the ceremony - the basic gazebo and either flowers on the gazebo or flowers along the sand aisle are included in the wedding in paradise free package. The runner isn't included in the free package for the aisle (we were told it would be $80 to do that) - we didn't have a runner and walking down "the aisle" in the sand was fine (even with my heels on).

For the reception we paid $150 to have the paper lanterns hung up. We had brought sashes for the back of the chairs, and were told that it would be $3 per chair to have them set up and have any other decorations placed on the tables. We brought votive candles for the tables (but it was too windy and they kept getting blown out) and also had a shot glass (that we bought in playa for $1 each) filled with blue jelly beans and had a card from the ASPCA placed in each shot glass at each place setting - we didn't get charged extra to have them set up (I think it was covered in the $150 set up fee for the lanterns).

"Thank you Tkolman773 I am getting married in 23 days and I am thinking about switching to the free package. Did you get a cake?"

We did have a cake (the free one included in the package). The free one serves 10 guests and we used it just for the cake cutting and the rest was delivered to our room after the wedding. They said we could pay to upgrade the cake, but we didn't really need to because for our dessert we had the "three milks cake" served and it was delicious, much better than the actual wedding cake!

Thank You, tkolman 773!! I too have the Ultimate package booked, but would love to save some money if the wedding turns out beautifully all the same. The one thing I thought would be fun is the marriachi band that comes with the package. Does anyone know if they'll allow you to hire an external company for that? I know you can add it on through Dreams, but I think it's around $800. Ouch! Also, has anyone thought about renting a catamaran for guests? Maybe the money I save from not doing the Ultimate package I could put towards a catamaran. It is so important that my guests have a great time I'm having trouble deciding which would be a better use of money. Any input much appreciated!

We are looking at October 15th now instead of the beginning of the month. I dont think you would still be in the area at the time? Not sure. We have been looking a photographers but they are also so expensive but we have not been very impressed with the photos from the resort photographer.

The photographers are expensive, but it depends on how important you think the pictures are overall. We took the plunge with spending a lot on a photographer but we talked about it for a while. To us, it was more important to have wonderful pictures.

Hi everyone, first-time post in this tread! Getting married January 20th (2 weeks!) and can't wait!

I have a question that the new brides may be able to answer... I went with the free package and sent my wedding coordinator the wedding form stating which bouquets and boutonnieres we wanted (based on the pamphlet), but after looking at your pictures, there seems to be MUCH MORE available than the ones shown on the pamphlet.

Is this something that we can discuss with the wedding coordinator when we get there, or should we let her know in advance that we will probably want to change the flowers to more tropical-looking ones?

I sent a few pictures of the ones that I was looking at before I went down there. I wanted to make sure that they were available and were not out of my price range.

I am planning on taking my guests out on a catamaran the day before the wedding. I have looked into booking through cancun discounts, Paradise Catamarans or Cancun Catamarans (i am waiting to hear back from them one a quote).

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
