The new Dreams Tulum thread! (Post all DT Qs&As here)

Can someone give me a time frame for a 4pm ceremony?? I am having my pictures done before with my groom so that we can attend the cocktail hour but I'm still not sure how much time to allot afterwards for group pictures...I've seen 30 min which would be perfect but I'm not positive. I have my photog for 5 hours, I'm thinking of having him get there at 2 then be there an hour into the reception...thoughts??

Here is what we did :

10 AM - Breakfast with my family & the girls

11:30- Hair & Makeup  ( I was VERY happy I booked early my hair was very detailed and took over 2 hours to do).

2:30- Family & ladies come to my hotel suite

3:00 Everyone minus brides parents left to do a photo shoot of bride & brides parents

3:45 Small Groom shoot at chapel

4pm ceremony

4:30 Photos at chapel

4:30-5:15 Couple Photos at beach

5:30 Group Photos at cocktail hour

6-9pm : Reception (the resort photographer did not go with us here).

Hi everyone! I am getting married at Tulum January 7, 2015...i know - so far ahead!!!

I am expecting about 30 or so people to join us, and have already booked a symbolic ceremony at the beach at 4pm. I am planning on having the pictures of my groom and I right after, and the cocktail hour from 5-6, group pictures, and reception at 7.

I have not read all the comments on this thread (but planning on doing so before the new year), but already have several questions..

I was planning on having my reception next to the Dolphin Pool, but saw a comment that it was not private at all...Any experiences?

And in terms of the music - would it be silly to have a DJ for only 30 people or so? And just like Pattel712 is interested - is the resort DJ any good?

I am sure there will be many more questions to come, but whooohooooo to all the brides with the upcoming weddings! Hope it will be the best time of your lives, girls!!

I was married in October was very happy I did not choose to get married on the beach or at the pool because they weren't private at all.... We had a party of 21 and did not hire a DJ however we hired an outside guitarist for the ceremony, the resort mariachi for our cocktail party, we used an ipod for our reception (we rented out the wine cellar -we paid for this), then they had a fire show and live music that night so it worked out perfectly. I thought all of the music I heard on the resort was very good - I wish I had splurged a little bit and just went with the musicians at the resort as it was hard to find anyone on my own.

Hi Everyone,

I am getting married January 31st, 2014. I am wondering if there are any other brides around the same time who are interested in working something out for extra wedding decor. i.e. if anyone is getting married after me, perhaps I could leave supplies for you at the resort, or if your getting married before me, and there are things you aren't interested in bringing home with you that I could use.. we could work something out...... ? Just a thought considering many of the things at DT in terms of extra decor are SO overpriced!

Hi,

My wedding is April 21st 2014, its coming so quick!! I was wondering if anyone could tell me what they paid for bridesmaid bouquets? Mine is included in the package, but my girls are not. I was also wondering if anyone bought flower centerpieces from the resort and if they were happy with them and how much they cost?? Also, we are having our reception at the dolphin pool and wondering if anyone has any suggestions for lights there and what size the tables were at the reception? we are hoping to sit between 4-6 ppl at each table.

Thanks so much!

Hi guys, I am getting married in Dreams Tulum on May 2nd. I was just notified that there will be a conference the same weekend and I cannot have the conference room for my reception. I will have around 50 people. Any suggestion on other locations? we want the reception to be indoor for the chance of rain or very hot weather.

Thank you

Is the conference room the same location as the convention center? I just got married on January 28th but we had everything outdoors, we did see some weddings being moved to the Seaside Grill due to rain but there is an extra charge to do so and I think the capacity is 50 max so depending on your numbers, it might not be an option.

The prices vary on different options for bouquets and centerpieces, you can check the wedding guide that is online for a summary. I was happy with the bouquets and the centerpieces, they aren't anything spectacular but the views and the atmosphere, flowers were the last thing that people were focused on. They did a great job with matching my colors though, I wanted orange. The tables are for 10 each. I did lighting under the tables and found it necessary, my guest book table didn't have any extra lighting and people ended up not signing it b/c it was too dark.

I thought the beach was pretty private, of course you will have people looking on but they aren't anywhere near your ceremony or in your pictures. The dolphin pool isn't private at all, I would look into the rectangular pool instead. It's where we had our reception and clears out much earlier than the dolphin pool (activities pool) and is off to the side instead of in the middle of the resort. I had 44 people and hired DJ Doremixx and it was a great decision. He was incredible and totally worth it. He offers a light up dance floor which may not be something you need for a smaller group but his services were amazing!

I know that there are set times that they have for when you can get married depending on the time of year. My wedding is in april and we could chose 330pm and i think it was 5 or 530pm. I know if the fall it is darker earlier so I believe the latest time you could get married was 4pm, but if there is another wedding on your day then you have to see what is available. We were sent our time options once our travel agent contacted the resort and we confirmed our wedding day.

I just got married on Jan. 28th. Sunset was at 5, we got married at 4, and did some pictures before the ceremony. I thought it worked out perfectly and the sunset in the background of our pictures was breathtaking. We did the ceremony at 4, which is when all the activities at the pool end and people start to clear out, cocktail hour at 5:30, then the reception starting at 6:30.

Thank you both for your replies . I think we will go for a 4pm ceremony! :)

Can anyone give me thoughts on the resort photographer?

We will be going for the ultimate package .. So pics and video is included , do they just take pictures at the ceremony? I'm sure I want a beach ceremony but if decide a terrace ceremony , can you go to beach for pictures?

I wish I had found this in forum in November - save myself a couple of months of sleepless nights lol.

Another ?! ... If we decide to just do a symbolic ceremony , how many days do you have to be there before you get 'married'

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
