The new Dreams Tulum thread! (Post all DT Qs&As here)

Thanks for the review!  It's so nice to hear that things went well.  Mine is 7/26-coming up very soon.  I had read on Tripadvisor that quite a few people are getting food poisoning recently, which makes me really nervous!  I've warned most of our guests just in case.  I'm glad to hear the chapel was beautiful, that's where ours will be too.  Did you have a civil or symbolic ceremony?  I'm trying to mentally prepare for the same minister, lol. I'm surprised you had the reception outside.  I thought it would be much too hot for that so we are planning for a ballroom reception.  Was it pretty comfortable outside?
I did change out of my wedding dress because I was so hot, but it was really fine after that. Perfect in fact! Dinner was at 7:30 so sun was down, and the afternoon had been just slightly overcast. We had a symbolic ceremony. Just laugh about the minister, can't do much else!

How did the hair/makeup go? Great! I brought a picture- I wanted fairly natural makeup which she did, and wavy hair. By the time we were finishing pictures on the beach I did have drowned rat hair, but that's not her fault- it was so humid. DH wanted me to wear my hair down- up probably would have been better choice, but doesn't matter.

So excited I just finished my "Survival Kits" this past weekend... I was able to do the entire project for under $4 per bag and they came out really nice since I am not much of a DIY person:

Inside: Immodium, Pepto, alka seltzer, gum, chapstick, snapple energy to-gos, earplugs, Advil, Sunscreen, Disposable Razor,  Mini Lint Roller, hand sanitizer, band-aids, alcohol prep pads, tissues, and I think that's about it. My dad works at a printing company so I asked him to donate some leftover cardstock and I just used that in my regular at-home printer, cut it out and stapled it to the bag (just a quart size ziplock). I couldn't get a template on this website so I just made my own- it took a few tries to get the size right but I work in powerpoint all of the time so it wasn't too difficult.

I am going to do these kits in lieu of an out of town bag and just hand them out myself at an informal cocktail hour I am holding myself (for free) at the Sugar Reef Bar the night before. I will then have wine stopper favors (with personalized tags- I've included all three images) at the reception for our actual favors..I also bought boxes and personalized them on vista print so that people could take their cake to-go if they wanted to since our package includes dessert too.

All in all I spent $130 on 24 favors between bags and wine stoppers- pretty budget friendly I think!

700

Hi Ladies,

I am looking to start my wedding reception earlier in the evening, and that means paying for an additional hour or so of reception time. Has anyone been able to negotiate a better price from Dreams Tulum for their extended reception? I am getting an additional $18.50 per person, per hour, with the 60 that we are expecting presently, that's a whopping  $1110.00 PER HOUR at minimum. I am just wondering if anyone else has done this and what the cost was...? THANKS!!

Hello Ladies!!  We're back!  We just got in yesterday, but I wanted to say that everything went really well.  My new husband "ahh!" and I have a couple days to decompress, but I'll post a review probably this coming weekend.  We were married in the chapel, had the cocktail hour on the balcony of the lobby, and had the reception in the ballroom.  If you have any specific questions, let me know!

Hi KristinT,

During our initial meeting with Anabel, we were debating whether or not to extend our reception until 11pm.  I told her that the price was what was holding me back and she allowed us to extend it for $10pp.  If I were you, I'd wait until you get down there and discuss it with them. We found that most of the prices were somewhat negotiable once you were sitting face to face.  For example, I decided to add lighting under the tables and she let me get the purple lights for the price of the white lights.

Hope that helps!

Just wanted to let you know that my hair and makeup were FANTASTIC.  I had Diana at the Salon and she was very serious, but in a good way!  No chitchat, all work.  I showed her some simple hair ideas that I had, but then I had a print out of Kate Middleton and this complicated knot at the very end.  She looked at me and in broken English asked me if this was what I really wanted.  I said yes and she said in her way that if that was what I wanted that was what I was going to get.  And it blew everyone that saw me away!

She also did my make up.  I showed her a picture and she confirmed that I wanted golds/warm colors then went to work.  It was a little heavier than I'm used to, but it looks fantastic in the photos.  Be sure to bring a lipstick or gloss to touch up throughout the day.

The bridesmaid hair was not quite as ideal, but it wasn't bad.  My sister had a side bun and my other bridesmaid had curls in the back.  It was clear that Diana was the 'Pro' and was directing the other salon workers on how to do the hair!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
