No, not that she doesn't know the date until two months out, they don't send you your planning form until then, which is just a form that asks about where you want your ceremony, reception, and how many people you have, right Jenny? Yes that's right. The forms were just finalizing location, cake, flowers and other decor. You confirm the date before. I believe I confirmed mine June 2012. You will get a confirmation email and there are a couple of starter forms to fill out.

Hi ladies!  I just found a new Review of DT on tripadvisor from 1/26/13 from lilyletigre.  I don't know if she's a BDW member, but I hope she doesn't mind me sharing!  I'm a little concerned about all the 'stomach issues' she said her guests had.  Hope it's just a fluke thing....

My husband and I spent 9 days at Dreams Tulum in January during which time, we got married! We traveled in a group of 30 adults and children.
Our vacation was awesome and I'm so incredibly happy that we chose to get married here.
For ease of reading, I'll separate my review into sections.

FLIGHT: We flew with Westjet. This was my first time flying with them and I can't say I was impressed. I found the flight attendants to be somewhat rude, the aircraft was small and there were no in-flight movies or meals. If you wanted to watch movies, you had to pay $10 to rent a tablet which battery didn't even last the length of the flight. We left our portable DVD player at home thinking that there would be something to watch and were disappointed at the lack of amenities on the flight.

HOTEL
CHECK IN: We arrived after a 2 hour bus ride from the airport at around 9PM. We weren't greeted with champagne like other reviewers but check in was smooth and fast. We were escorted to our room on a trolley and helped with our bags.

ROOM: We had a Junior Suite Oceanview room on the third floor. It was beautiful, but could use an updated TV. Our view of the ocean was great, the bed was super comfy and the bathroom was spacious and well laid-out. We had a bottle of wine in our room with a couple apples. Overall, we were very happy with our room. I will say, however, it can get pretty loud when people are in the hallways with their kids talking and walking loudly, but this didn't bother us too much. As for reviews regarding loudness of the pool/entertainment at night, we did not notice this problem at all - unless you go to bed at 9PM.

BEACH: I absolutely LOVED the beach! It's not much for swimming but it's completely private and incredibly beautiful. You can walk down either side for what seems like forever without coming across another resort. There is a large area roped off that is safe for swimming, but the rest of the beach is pretty rocky. It was really quiet when we went so there was only about 2 people in the water at any given time. There were always plenty of seats available, and if you woke up early enough (around 7am), you could score a palapa.

POOL: The pool was great; super clean and beautiful. These are the seats that are reserved very early in the morning. The pool is mainly inhabited by families with small children. We didn't spend too much time at the pool but when we were playing with the kids in our group, this is where we were.

ENTERTAINMENT: We didn't catch a lot of shows, but the ones we did were great! The American Idol show was funny and the shows always interacted with the audience. The entertainment staff on the beach and at the pool were great! However, I don't think it's appropriate for some of the female entertainment staff to flash their bums and take off their tops around kids, as well as grind up on the male entertainment staff. I realize they're just being cheeky, but perhaps they could save this type of behavior for the area around the adult pool.

SERVICE: Service was pretty good - I wouldn't say outstanding. Sometimes we had to wait quite a while to get our drinks at restaurants; sometimes we wouldn't get offered coffee at breakfast. Some of the staff seemed a little miserable at times but nothing that would keep us from revisiting. 

MAID SERVICE: Our room was made up very late in the day (around 4pm) which is when we are usually inside having a siesta and/or getting ready for dinner. Because of this, our room wasn't made up for several days. Sometimes it would be made up earlier and then they'd come again at 4 or 5 when we were napping and disturb us. It wasn't until almost the end of the trip that we noticed the "Do not disturb" light switch. Even with this switch on, we were still disturbed several times. While I can appreciate the extra turn down service, it was unnecessary for us and we just found it to be a nuisance. 

FOOD: This was the most disappointing aspect of the trip. The food was not so great - probably the worst I've had at any all inclusive. The fresh fruit was great but hit or miss; one day it looked like they were serving canned pineapple. There were not a lot of "american" food choices like french fries, chicken strips etc. which is what I enjoy when on vacation. There was a lot of wannabe gourmet food at the buffet which I didn't even want to try. Something about eating curry on hot day before heading back to the beach just doesn't appeal to me. 

I really enjoyed the Barefoot Grill which is made-to-order burgers, hot dogs, pizza and sandwiches on the beach. Very yummy!

The Seaside Grill was excellent as was the Asian restaurant. I didn't enjoy the food at the Italian place and the service was soooooo slow! We didn't even stay for dessert because it took us almost 3 hours to get through dinner. The Mexican place was pretty good and service was good. We didn't eat at the French place but heard it was excellent from our other guests.

Almost all of our guests had mild to severe stomach issues while on vacation.This is not a slight against the resort; some people just experience digestive issues when eating different foods. My husband and I took Dukoral before we left and didn't experience any problems. 

DRINKS: Drinks were great! Very delicious, fancy and presented nicely. My favorite was La Pirata.

WEDDING: Being a bride planning a wedding from a different country can be challenging. It's difficult to give up almost all the control to someone you've only corresponded with over email. I have to say, our wedding planner, Natalia - was AMAZING!! I wasn't sure how the day would play out and I was so incredibly nervous because I'm a perfectionist but the day was perfect. I met with her for an hour where we discussed the details and she executed everything I wanted and asked for perfectly. She didn't try to upsell me on anything and was very supportive with where I wanted to cut costs. I could not have had a better day and she is to thank! They are so good at what they do and I'm so happy that we chose this resort to have our wedding!

The included photography is very nice. We only had 36 photos included in our package and each additional photo you want is an extra $20. We brought our own photographer as photography is very important to us and I would highly recommend doing this. The resort photographer is pretty good, but not even close to the same quality that we would get in Canada or the US.

Overall, this was a fantastic vacation with family and friends. The resort is great for groups with all different types of people. Everyone had a fantastic time and it was a week to remember!

I wouldn't be too concerned about gastro problems. Lots of people get 'travelers diarrhea'. There are options like what this bride talks about, Ducolax, or you can just go to your MD, get a prescription for a few doses of Cipro, so if you do get traveler's diarrhea while on your trip, take these and it helps get rid of it. Also pack things like immodium etc for those people who have weaker stomachs. Remind guests that although they are staying at a safe and clean resort, water is always a risk, so try to stick to bottled water... and most resorts, including Dreams, use bottled water in their dinner glasses as well.
