The new Dreams Tulum thread! (Post all DT Qs&As here)

Sheena2011 and Amjohnson:

Thanks for all your answers!  We really appreciate you sticking around to give us newbs this information.  After all, you Dreams Tulum wedding veterans ARE really our eyes and ears.  All we can do is imagine the place!

I pretty much knew we needed to get a DJ/sound system.  It's just a matter of whether the resort DJ is any good or whether we should get an outside DJ.  Would I need to pay a vendor fee for an outside DJ?  I will be attending the webinar so hopefully I will have a bunch of info to share with the rest of you guys.

Hi BeaBride,

Here is the question that I asked the WC and her answer (I'm in blue, her replies are in Red)

I was also wondering what decorations are included with the ultimate wedding package for the dinner reception (either on the beach or poolside)? In the Ultimate wedding packages we offer you one flower center prises for the dinner table and all the  set up is in white color (linens, overlay  and napkins).

I guess I just assumed that white chair covers were included in the white linens but I guess I should claify just to be sure. I will ask on Saturday!

Here are a few more questions and answers that i asked incase you're interested.

Are we allowed to bring our own decorations?  Yes, you can have your own decoration. And if so is there an extra charge for set up? Set up of wedding stuff has extra cost usd 5 per person (Chair Bows, Small table lanterns, paper lanterns, etc.? Papers lanters set up cost usd 200

Also we would like to have our wedding / reception outdoors and were wondering if we are allowed to bring our own I-Pod dock rather than renting one from the resort? Yes you can have your own I pod dock station

What does it cost just to rent the paper lanterns from the resort if we do not bring our own? We did not rent papers lanterns, you need to have your own.

BeachBride24:

About the chairs...you wrote that the white linen covered chairs are included in the ultimate package, but I thought that was just for the beach ceremony.  Do they just set them up for the ceremony and then move them for the reception?  2 for 1?  I'm getting married in the chapel...so how would that work.  Did you have that clarified by the resort?

For the centrepieces, I was planning on bringing the vases with me.   So much to think about!!

You were talking about using those little lanterns, so what about spray painting them orange and putting a little bow on them or something to incorporate that colour on your reception tables? Just an idea.  I'm really not very creative!

thank you for your response!  $30 sounds silly, but I don't want to pack vases.  I like the starfish on your table, did you bring those yourself?  If so, where did you buy them?  I am guessing you painted them yourself cause they all match you theme :)  I like the runner too, did you bring that yourself as well!!!  I am hoping to do something similar with seashells, starfish, and sand $$.  My colors will be orange/coral and saffire/cornflower blue.  Thank you for you pictures, answers, and new ideas!  You are a life saver!

The resort charge for the vases is I believe 30$ each! I know because I was going to rent three to put our bouquets in them for the reception. What I did and it worked out great was I brought( in my carry on) turquoise and red glass candle/votive holders which were two different sizes. Then I found some tin/metal vases at Michael's that I spray painted red to make our wedding color. They were light and easy to pack instead of hauling glass vases in my carry on and the wedding coordinators put some sand in them for us so we could stand up our bouquets. Depending which wedding package you are getting, you may have one or two flower arrangements included. I guess it also depends how big your wedding is...guest wise. With the Ultimate package, we requested that the wedding table arrangement be the same as the other one included in the package. We had one long table for our reception so we used these arrangements along with the decor I brought and it worked out great.  As it was my carry on was full with the votive holders and my wedding bouquet, ( I have real touch) If you are only going to have a few vases, I would rent them. I had brought just enough decor/stuff and so glad I didn't bring anymore breakables or vases. I have included a photo to maybe help you with some ideas. FYI, we had Natalia as our WC but they did the set up and did a great job! I did draw out a fairly detailed drawing of how I wanted the table set up but I thought they did a great job.

No Problem. I can only return the favor and help out future brides like so many past brides helped me.

The larger starfish I got at Michael's...they are real and were actually starfish garland that was attached with rope. I had to use an x-acto knife to take it off. If you can get fake starfish that would be best as the real ones smell....yuck. I did find out after I painted mine from someone one here that if you cook them at low heat in the oven like at 150 or 200 or so, it gets rid of the smell. I was at Pottery Barn yesterday and they have the small and large ones ...fake so that would be another place to look... bit more pricey. I used the Martha Stewart sparkle paint...I am pretty sure I did a base coat in regular acrylic first so I have the right color. I then got the pearlized paint and pained the smaller ones that I used for place cards and table decor. I used the large red and teal ones down the aisle also and they WC cleaned them off for us and placed them on the table for us.

The table runner and chair sashes I ordered online on Ebay from a company in China. For three runners and 15 chair sashes it cost me 40$CAD...pretty good!

Dee Dreams:

I attended the webinar and learned that the 2 backup locations in case it rains are the the ballroom and the World Cafe.  If it's at the World Cafe, you can only have a maximum of 40 people.  Hope that helps.

Good Morning BTB

I need help.

I am planning on bringing down my own fabric for the arch way and chairs. Our colour is coral and I am very picky on it matching. I have the sizes from the resort on both the chairs/arch way. I am just not sure which fabric to use and if others sewed the ends or left them "cut". If you didnt sew did it look okay?  I know nothing about fabric or sewing at all.

Also - I was told the archway is 8 meters long. Would you just get an 8 meter long piece of fabric and wrap around??? The measurements confused me.

Thanks :)

Hello Ladies,

I noticed a few of you had questions about the reception locations.

The private beach parties and pool side receptions are by far our favorites spots and the gals do a great job at coordinating all the details for you.

We also recommend you to consider the Mariachi Band for your cocktail hour, not only is it fun but will keep yours guests entertained ; )

Here are some of our favorite set-up and moments:

Worried it might rain?? Dreams Tulum counts with several in-door options, your on site wedding coordinator will help you design the plan B according to how many guests you have ; )

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
