The new Dreams Tulum thread! (Post all DT Qs&As here)

Recommended Posts

Hi!!

Yay another Canadian bride in November!!  Looks like November is a popular month I guess!  I'm not sure whether I'm going to need paper lanterns because I would like to have our reception at the EL Patio restaurant or at the Seaside Grill.  I'm not sure if they will allow private receptions at El Patio so I'm thinking that it will likely be at the Seaside Grill.  I just wish the resort would let us book it in advance.  If the reception is at the Seaside Grill, we likely won't need lanterns because the ceilings look like they are quite high so I was thinking of doing the fabric  draping with lights.

I feel like I still have some unanswered questions, so I'm hoping this webinar on Saturday will really help me out.  Yesterday I thought of something that I think I'm going to stick to for decor.   I'm getting married in the chapel so I'm planning on making DIY pomanders and bringing them with me to hang on the church pews....and then reusing them to put on top of vases with nice crystal type beads in the base of the vase as centrepieces for my reception.  The only thing standing in the way of getting started is that I don't really have colours yet because my bridesmaids won't be ordering their dresses until April 22 (because of scheduling conflicts) so the dresses they choose will depend on the colours for the wedding.  I'm hoping to have them wear something on the brighter side like some type of coral or fuschia. Also, I think I'll also have tealight candles surrounding the centerpieces.  I'm not sure if I should bring real tealights or battery operated ones because of the wind. As for chair sashes...they are really pretty but I have a lot of guests and am not yet sure I want to spend money and time on them.  Does anyone know what you call those bamboo-like chairs and how much they cost?  I think that getting those might create a nice colour contrast without having to do any extra work.

We're expecting about 60 guests.  What about you guys?

I would also be happy to share decorations! We will be arriving at the DT on Nov 21 but I haven't fully decided on what decorations I am going to be bringing. I plan so far on bringin fuchsia and orange paper lanterns, fuchsia chair sashes (which i plan on setting up myself instead of paying the $3 per chair set up price) and i'm sure other stuff as well! Still need something an idea for centerpieces though without them costing a fortune!

Let me know!

I'll ask about backup locations for you.  I'm not sure but I feel like I may have seen on here somewhere that there was a bride that paid for the Dreams of Love package but had the gold menu instead of the silver.  You may not need to switch packages just for the menu.  I can ask that too.

I think I may do a combo of fuschia/coral and yellow??  I don't know for sure yet.  How did you guys decide!!!?

Hi Sheena2011:

We are bringing our own photographer but will have pictures included in the package.  I was hoping to get a longer video of the ceremony instead of having the pictures but as you've old me before, I can probably forget about that, right?

If I can't swap that, what would you suggest I use the resort photographer for?

I found them really heavy on the posing - "please put your hand on her shoulder", "please touch your noses" etc, which I couldn't stand. Since I didn't use them for the wedding, I'm really not sure of the quality of their wedding pictures, but I know they have a website http://www.ilgruppodigitale.com/ that has some sample wedding albums on it so you can get a better idea if you like them or not.

I asked about getting the gold menu or having a choice between 2 entrees on the dreams of love menu and she said No :( .. Also as for color I chose turquoise and orange because their my two fav colors :P .. As for center pieces I was thinking of doing a slim vase with waterwith little rocks in the bottom and a flower and a floting candle lol just an idea lol but worried about bringing all that why I figured sharing with be easier then whoever brings stuff doesn't have to lug it back lol . And I'm thinking about turquoise chair sashes . Your center pieces sound beautiful :) and are u talking about the Tiffany chairs ? And I think once us 3 have a better idea of what we want for decorations it will be easier to plan the sharing :P :D

The dreams tulum has a number of different chairs like what you are talking about but they charge $9-$15 per chair to use them...

We are looking at having 30-50 guests come down for the wedding...

I have decided to bring my own chair bows as one of my bridesmaids has her own linen company and the white covered chairs are included in the ultimate package. I am going to have a couple of our guests (probably my bridesmaid's husband and my brother) to tie the chair bows for us before the ceremony. My wedding colors are Orange and Fuchsia, however my bridesmaid only has Fuchsia chair bows so my fiance and I have decided to have the Fuschia chair bows with orange paper hands fans as a favor on each chair at the ceremony to bring in both colors. I have not figured out how I am going to add in the orange at the reception dinner though? My friend got married this past summer and she had bought a bunch of these little white lanterns http://www.weddingstar.com/product/mini-lanterns-with-hanger that she said I could bring with me I am just not sure how I will use them. I am going to use flameless tealights with them as we are having both a beach ceremony and reception and I am worried about the wind. Are you planning on bringing the vases for your centerpieces down in your luggage or are you planning on purchasing or renting them there? This is something like what you are talking about and I think look beautiful I just wasn't sure how I'd get them all down to Mexico...

Chair sashes, table overlays, runners etc. can all be purchased on e-bay for cheap.

Other than that I plan on bringing fuchsia and orange paper lanterns for the beach and welcome gifts for our guests... I feel like i'm going to need a few suitcases!

That's funny yea that picture is what I was thinking :) and I'm also thinking of putting hand fans on everyone's chair :) and I'm only expecting 20 people . I wanna do flower pedals in the sand and turquoise or turquoise and orange tulle on the canopy . I want to do paper lanterns by the pool brcause i heard the lighting is not great also candles around the pool where were seated. I hope we can share decorations cuz it would save us alot of suitcases lol I think I'm gonna bring and set up my self because I find the resort expensive :s also just wondering what ur guests paid to come down ? Since we are Canadian brides just seeing if I got a fair deal :)

Yeah I heard the lighting is not too great either so I'm going to have the paper lanterns and the little white lanterns with the flamesless tealights.

I agree I plan on bringing and setting up pretty much everything ourselves. They told me it would cost $200 to set up the paper lanterns (that we bring down ourselves)

I have seen the tall skinny vases like that at the dollarama for $1-2 each which i think is pretty reasonable!

I sent you a PM with what we paid.

BeaBride,

I would highly recommend going with the Ultimate package. We had also originally booked the Dreams of Love package but after comparing the cost for the aisle runner( i wanted it), the mexican trio(so worth the money) etc, we upgraded. Best decision we made. Plus you get more photos from the resort. Although we had an outside photographer, we used the resort photographer for the wedding video and the 50 free prints. We got them to come to the reception.

I'll let you know what I find out on Saturday.  Is there anything you want me to ask for you?  When I originally registered for the wedding I wrote that we wanted the Dreams of Love package but my FH hubby and I think that in the end, we're probably going to go with the ultimate package because for an extra $800, we get a video, mexican trio, the gold wedding menu, and extra floral decor.  We haven't told the wedding department yet because we still have to crunch numbers.

Yay to November brides from Canada!  thewave.gif

I forgot to mention that we asked for the Mexican trio to perform at the beginning of our dinner reception instead of the cocktail hour. I am so glad we did this as my husband and I wanted to be able to enjoy them instead of being off taking photos. They stayed through our appetizers. I got up and danced with our friends' little boy and they played music that everyone knew....the in laws and older guests were even singing along!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!

I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else.
