My girls will be barefoot at the ceremony and then I am letting them choose any type of ivory shoe to wear at the reception.  Some of them like to wear heels some don't.  This way they can just choose shoes that are comfortable to them but just in an ivory color to match with part of their dress.

I was told that did not include the cocktail hour!  Which is outrageous!  But I have 26 people but 6 are children, so I was told that I could use the 20 as the adult meals, and all of the extra meals will be kids meal, which are only $25/person.

Mine are wearing silver flats.  They were going to go barefoot, but we talked about how hot the sand can be, so we decided to just go with simple flats.  I have two little girls in the wedding party, so heels were definitely out!  And the women didn't want heels in the sand, so it worked out for everyone!

My bridesmaids are wearing long dresses, so I told them to wear whatever shoes make them happy - as long as they are dress appropriate!  Their shoes wont be seen anyways so I didn't want to fuss over them too much.

Our wedding is in a month!  So frazzled, there is lots to do.  Sent the wedding planning form back to Aurora, and she is actually very helpful!  I was a bit worried after reading some of the other reviews, so maybe I'm just lucky... I dunno lol.  She allowed me to change from the Wedding in Paradise package to the Dreams of Love one (it was such a minor difference by the time I saw my total, so we figured why not) and she sent me two separate invoices (one with the Wedding in Paradise package and one with the Dreams of Love package) to help me decide.  That made things pretty clear for us... and I'm definitely taking printouts of those with me in case they try to overcharge us later!

The prices have gone up quite a bit for 2011 weddings unfortunately.  But there are also a lot of things being offered now that weren't offered before so I guess that explains the price hike.  We made it clear in our wedding planning form that our cocktail hour is only for 20 people, and not all 50 guests, and that the cake should only be made to feed 20 people as well.  In the invoice Aurora sent, there are no extra charges beyond the 20 people.

If this is useful to anyone, these are the "extras" we are being charged for:

$165 chair setup for ceremony

$3/person for chair sashes, table overlays, etc (we are bringing our own sashes and overlays)

$70/bouquet for bridesmaids

$750 for private event at Seaside Grill (that cost has not gone up this year thankfully)

$150 to set up paper lanterns (bringing our own lanterns and throwies)

Hi Girls!

I have a couple questions about DT.  I apologize in advance if they've already been asked, but I promise I did my best to go through old posts first!

1.  Is it possible to have a FREE reception?!  This is an all inclusive resort, so I would hope we can just make reservations at one of the restaurants for our group of probably around 30, and have a not-so-private reception.  Everything I'm reading on here indicates a per person charge for a private dinner... are/have any of you doing a completely free reception? (I guess this is a Dreams Resorts in general question, we are also consdering Riviera Cancun.)

2.  My TA mentioned a gazebo on a hill... she said it's more private, not directly on the beach, and over looks the ocean.  However, I haven't seen this mentioned on anyones reviews or on any of he lists of ceremony locations on these forums.  Anyone know anything about this location?! ... I reallly hope it exists!  And if pictures are floating around somewhere I'd love to know where!

Thanks SO much for any information!!

Hi Grace,

Unfortunately, you are unable to have a free reception, at least now with the number of guests you are bringing. I've heard of brides reserving a table at a restaurant, or just showing up with 10 guests or less (preferably 6 or less) and them getting a free reception. But once you pass 10 people, they will charge.

Your package includes up to 20 people, so you are only paying for everyone past that, so for a wedding with 30 guests, you're only going to have to pay for the additional 10 guests.  The silver menu is another $55/per person (reception dinner/drinks only), and the gold menu is $65/per person.  If you want extra cocktail hour, that will be $25/per person (hors deurves and cocktails).  If you want extra cake or champagne for each guest that's probably another $6/per person for each.  They will charge you for everything beyond 20 guests.  It's better food than you would otherwise have at any of the restaurants though.  Even if you have your dinner at one of the restaurants, it's still considered a private event for your larger group because you are taking away waiters/bartenders/staff to be exclusively treating your guests only.  That is why they are charging you more.

Regarding the gazebo, I just went there 2 months ago, and I saw nothing of the nature. I didn't see a hill either though...so maybe that's my problem. I'm pretty sure I saw all the resort had to offer, and all I remember is the church or the beach for weddings.  I think you might be confusing the gazebo for something at Riveria Cancun or Cancun Dreams locations (?).  I'm pretty sure those both have gazebos...but you won't find one in Tulum.

Good luck wherever you choose your wedding!! I loved my wedding at Dreams Tulum and wouldn't have had it anywhere else!

From my understanding the only way to have a "free" reception is to do it at the buffet. I think even then there is a limit on the number of people, that's something you'd want to check with your co-ordinator about though.

Nope, we had to have a buffet (I think it's mandatory, or highly suggested, with a party greater than 50 guests), and I can assure you, it's the exact same price per person as a plated dinner. You basically get all the items on the silver menu or all the items on the gold menu for the buffet. I'm not sure there are many resorts in Mexico that give a free reception for parties over 10. They might have cheaper dinner options, but when I originally looked around, it seemed it was pretty common to charge for this special event.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
