The new Dreams Tulum thread! (Post all DT Qs&As here)

I have to agree with what everyone else is saying.  If you are having all of those people come down to Mexico with you, you might as well bite the bullet and pay a little extra for the life long memories.  Otherwise why not just have gone on a honeymoon alone?

What about doing your reception in the buffet restaurant?  Or forego the cocktail hour and appetizers that come with the ultimate package and see if you can negotiate the 20 people paid for in the cocktail hour for another 5-10 dinners in its place.

We also have 40 coming down and I have to admit the extra charges for exceeding the package is really adding up.  Good luck negotiating the wedding reception that you want (with FI and Dreams)

I think you definitely need to have your full reception and have the whole wedding the way you wanted it.  They are traveling and will expect it.  Have you thought about doing the free package and paying for all the extras, you may want to do a price comparison and see what it looks like if you go that route.

With the number of people we have coming, we have to pay extra for the additional people over the 20 DT includes in this package.

He was thinking of just doing hors d oeurves after the ceremony and then everyone would be on their own for dinner, then we'd just meet at 10:00pm to dance the night away at the disco.  I, of course, would like to have a semi-traditional reception with the toasts, garter toss, bouquet toss, dancing, etc. I'm thinking the reception is a way to celebrate with your family and friends your new life together as husband and wife.  I told him that his idea is silly and that all of our family and friends traveled to DT for our wedding/vacation and it would be nice to have a nice family dinner/reception to all celebrate.  What do you think?

Hi!  I agree with you and everyone's post since this one.  It is about memories!  When you think of it, what is an extra couple hundred bucks so your guests feel special to be included in your day and for you to have those memories of spending it with them?  It's priceless (or so I feel).

Also, I might feel as a guest, if I am shelling out some dough to go to another country to see my loved one get married, that they would shell out to have a nice dinner together!

We also had a "welcome dinner" at the World Buffet- it was amazing.  If $ is really tight, and you can't/don't want to pay for the extra people for dinner- the World Buffet is free and it really was amazing.  You can still set up decorations on the tables, and they put you to the side so it is kind of secluded from the rest of the resturant.  You just can't have the DJ there....

Thanks ladies for your input! We'll have to crunch the numbers and figure it out - I'm trying to convince the FH that if I were a guest at a destination wedding, I would expect to have an intimate gathering with our friends and family.  Wish me luck and I'll keep you posted :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
