We are in the same situation that Tami posted. FI travels for work, usually gone 3 or 4 days. We vacation a lot for fun, sometimes together, sometimes separate. He usually will travel internationally for 5-10 days where all we will have is a text message or email.
I work 12 hour nights and sleep all day. We talk on the phone on my way to work. A lot of times, I don't have anything new to report, I just woke up! We pretty much spend the weekends doing things together. I think it makes a difference that we did long-distance for a year. It has taught us how to spend time together AND apart. It works for us, but I can see how it wouldn't work for others.

doug and i are the the kind of couple who hate to be apart. especially after a long weekend or vacation together, it is so hard to be apart. we dont "need" to be together for security of the relationship, we just want to because that's what makes us happy.

people always tell us, oh you'll get over it, but we've been together since 2003, and it hasn't changed. whenever we dont spend enough time together we start to get grouchy with each other. we text all day, and he calls me every break at work.

we do enjoy SOME time apart, but we are constantly calling and texting even so :)

going back to work yesterday was awful, both of our first days back after 12 days of non-stop togetherness was tough!

Oh that is SO how we are too! I hate going to back to work after a vacay...I miss DH soooooo much! It's like suddenly having to go on a diet after eating whatever/whenever for weeks! lol! Ugh.

DH and are are probably closer to the attached at the hip choice :) We just really like hanging out together, and I get bummed when I'm doing something adventurous by myself and he's not there to share the experience. We both have our separate hobbies...uhm, he's not getting me out to fish anytime soon....but we'd rather hang with each other over anybody else. We have to consciously make an effort to go out with friends so we don't become super homebodies..which is how we'd both prefer it. He's my buddy....and hubby!

This is a tough one for me... FI and I are opposites in a lot of ways. I am super independent and require alone time in order to be happy. If I don't get it I get sooo cranky. FI on the otherhand would like to be together 24/7. In the beginning it was hard for us because I would feel a little suffocated and his feelings would get hurt if I needed alone time. Now that we've been together 4 years, we have balanced things out and I would say that I have become more like him. We spend a lot of time together. He races a car and I am part of the race team. We travel together on weekends for that. But we both get alone time because I work some nights (so he is alone) and until school starts I have days free. It works well because I get my "me" time without taking away from our time together.

Hmmm lets see. right now fi and I are on different work schedules so during the week we only spend maybe an hr or two with each other each night. On the weekends we usually spend all weekend with each other. He really likes when we do things together. I on the other hand dont' mind alone time, i like alone time sometimes. Not a ton, but i'd rather do things like shopping without him, he'd rather we do it together. So when i want to really shop i go by myself, if i just am browsing or not sure what i'm looking for i go with him. It works itself out. I try to do a girls night or schedule something with my friends at least once a month, too.

omg, can I just say that I love that you called me Chelle!?! It's my "real life" nickname and I don't think anyone on here has ever called me that before. Makes me feel so extra friendsy! ;-)

Ok, sorry for the hijack! On we go...

Timm and I are the couple people probably roll their eyes at when we're in public, always hugging and holding hands. We make a concerted effort to do things together (movies, shopping, museums), especially now that our schedules are completely opposite.

However, we both went into this relationship (almost five years ago now) with the understanding that, as much as we love each other, there are times where we just need to be alone. He has his writing room where he can disappear to, I have a cozy chair in the computer room where I can curl up with a book. We both cherish our alone time, and it was a relief to know early on that it was something we both agreed on.

I also make a point of having a "Girls Nite" at least once a month, where me and a couple girlfriends get together for dinner/drinks/movies/etc, no boys allowed. We're all at a stage in our lives where we're either married or living with someone, so being able to just do our thing without the boys is a must. We even had our first girls weekend away this past October, and are hoping to make it a semi-regular thing (as timing and funds allow).
