Hey Kits55 and Jacilynda...thanks so much for bringing this thread back to life. I've been meaning to come on here an post but have been soooo busy.

Kits55...I absolutely love your parasols. They helped motivate me to get started on mine. I traced all 85 or so of mine this past weekend and now I'm onto the painful task of painting them all. So far we've only completed 10 :o(

I pretty much did it the same way using the projector to trace in a black marker (I did some sloppy tracing because it would be covered by the paint) and painting over it in black acrylic paint.

Hey, Kits55...how many layers of paint did you use?

Here are some pictures of the process and my final product. I have my monogram shown below but all of the parasols that we'll give away (about 80) will have only the date on it (it's the one in the top right of the last picture).

We did one MOB, one MOG, our big O, and Thank you. The rest have our date on it.

oh ladies I need to get on mine! I feel better that you are getting married sooner than me so I still can wait a little bit. I have TONS of luminarias I'm doing right now and making our cake topper, and my daughter is the big ONE tomorrow so it's just been crazy!

But they look GREAT!!!

Hey! Great job getting all of the tracing done! Thank you SO much posting the pictures of how the tracing and projector is used. I forgot all about taking pictures of the whole process so I'm glad you were able to add it to the thread. :)

We used two coats on each of the parasols because one was definitely not enough. Three would be even better but even up close two coats look really nice.

Your parasols look amazing! I still can't believe that you're doing 85 but you're my parasol hero! :)

I used AL Afternoon Delight for all of the parasols EXCEPT the Gracias parasol. I will say that the "G" and "B" for Groom and Bride (mother of the groom and mother of the bride) is a different font. I used Beau rivage One for those two letters.

It's so much work but it's well worth it...the frustrating part was really just trying not to be an absolute perfectionist with them all. The smallest imperfection to me up close is not even noticeable from afar or from another point of view.

As for the font I used. I saved it on my laptop at work because I knew this question would come up. I had a hard time deciding what font to use, especially since it's so hard to find a decent fancy looking O (most fonts give you just the big circle). I don't know it off hand but well be sure to check when I get to work on Friday. I just played around with different fonts and ended up going with what I thought looked good, would be easy to paint, but still came across elegant (imo).

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
