It took us a while to decide as well. Once you narrow it down to what country/island it gets easier. From there, read posts from brides getting married in that area. The forum is broken down into different section depending on location. Another thing that I did was to research the resorts on tripadvisor.com to get an idea of what the resort is like and if it has any repetitive issues in the travelers reviews. The travelers photos are helpful too to see what the resort is really like.

Good luck and congratulations!

Good luck finding your destination! My FI and I are still trying to figure that out. JHarwood explained it all (kudos to her). For us, when we found this site, we just started thread hopping. We wanted to get a feel for all the various places you could have a DW, and then from there just started looking into the details of each place. We're still trying to narrow it down. But once you have a general location you like, such as tropical, near the ocean, etc., then you can really narrow down the venue. I wish you much luck on this. Happy planning!

Hi Joey,

Congratulations on your engagement! When my FI and I decided to have a destination wedding, we came up with a rough idea on price. We wanted the trip to be under $2000 so that it remained affordable for our friends and family. Once we decided that, we then started investigating some locations using a book that we picked up from a travel agent - Mayan Riviera, Dominican Republic, Cuba (we're Canadians) etc. We narrowed our search down to about 6-7 affordable resorts and then went on Trip Advisor/Expedia to research reviews. We finally narrowed it down to 2 resorts in the Mayan Riviera, but couldn't decide between the two. We emailed a link to each resort to our wedding party and parents and asked them to choose. One resort was $100 cheaper/person, but our friends/family unanimously chose the more expensive resort (Dreams Tulum) because they fell in love once they saw pictures. Ultimately, the decision is yours but it was fun to involve our loved ones in our decision (I think they appreciated it, particularly being able to approve of our price point). Good luck! I'm sure you'll be so pleased with whatever you choose.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
