I dont think anyone has gotten pics yet.. Both Andie and Jenluvsmike's weddings are in the beginning of the new year though so if anything they would have the info. I keep checking the dreams site for pictures since its up and running, but have yet to see anything. As soon as I hear anything I'll let everyone know

I have also emailed asking for pics. Did you already book your packages? We are looking for November 2009 and wanted to get an idea of what it costs then...also if you have a good travel agent to suggest here in Calgary

Hi Kimvdp, welcome to the site!!

Hopefully you find all the information you need...I'm getting married Feb 4/09 and jenluvsmike is a little before me. I have some info from the resort if you would like to take a look. Also, I'm waiting for pictures as well....my TA said that as of yet they don't have a wedding coordinator, so it might be difficult to get back any info, she also told me that the lady she is speaking with down there will try to send pictures by Dec.15....I guess I will have to see if that happens. You might want to message cndvb9...she is from Calgary, and seems to have a TA that is doing a lot of work for her. I'm in Calgary too, but I'm using one that was suggested to me through family, but they are in Edmonton....and most of the time it feels like I'm babysitting them, so I won't suggest them!!! *LOL*

Glad to hear you are thinking of getting married in Huatulco. FH and I were there about 2 years ago or so, and just fell in love with the area! It's just beautiful! We stayed at the resort called the Gala, before it became Dreams this past year! We are leaving Toronto on January 16th/09 for Huatulco and getting married there on January 19th/09! It's almost a month away and I really can't wait!!!!!

 

Both cndvb9 and I are using the same TA - she is based out of St. Catharines, Ontario, but works with people all over Canada! She's great, her name is Karen Gill - her email address is kgill@tpi.ca.

 

I haven't received any pictures as of yet, but I did find some on another website! They are computer-generated pics of what it will look like when it's all done - I haven't seen these anywhere else. They look incredible, and they've done a complete overhaul on the outside and inside of the building! The website is Cheap Caribbean - just go to "Hotels & Resorts" at the top of the page and search for Dreams Huatulco.

 

Andie, as far as I know, our TA has told us that there is a lady there that is the wedding coordinator. They've been talking back and forth the past few weeks or so.

 

For everyone - FH called Dreams the other day (yesterday I think) to see if everything was open and ready (as their grand opening was supposed to be December 1st). The guy he talked to said everything is open and ready to go. There are still a few things that aren't quite finished yet, but are still underway: The Japanese restaurant should be open in January, the Spa won't be open until the end of February, and there is one pool closed (where they built the new tower) that will probably open in February. Not to worry though, as they have the Japanese food offered in another restaurant for the time being, the spa services are available at different areas within the resort, and there are 2 or 3 other pools to use, not to mention the ocean!!!

 

We are on a major countdown here ladies! I feel like my brain is going a mile a minute lately - I am so uninterested in work or anything else! It's going to go by so fast with Christmas coming up and everything that goes with it! Before I know, we'll be boarding the plane!!! I can't remember if I told you all that I had my first fitting for my dress and it's just as beautiful as I remembered it to be!!! I love it! AND, they had to take it in!!!! yeah me!!!!

I got packages in august b/c we wanted to have an idea earlier on so we could give people as much time as possible to know how much they were needing to save. Our guests also were able to put down the $200 to hold that rate. I am probably the wrong person to compare with b/c we are getting married the most expensive week of the year (dec 25th to jan 1st). Your prices would probably more comparable to Andie or Jens. Either way, it was $2443 pp (double rate) from calgary.

Like jen said, we are both using karen gill. She was really really great at first and now I havent heard from her in over a month now, even though I have been hounding her! So i am pretty annoyed b/c I have people who have been tryingto get a payment plan with her for 2 mths now to no avail. ugh.

 

Jen - have you heard from her lately Are you going to be posting your planning thread soon? I cannot wait to hear all about your wedding and see your great review! Its so soon for you, esp with christmas right away, it will be here before you know it!!!

Nadine - I know Karen has been really hard to get ahold of lately and it's been tough when our guests can't get ahold of her either (because then you hear it from them too)! But, I know she's been through some crap lately and was admitted to the hospital for a couple weeks! Things were not good. Then her daughter won this beauty pageant thing, so she had to take her out to Chicago.

 

So, believe me, I know it's been hard to talk to her lately, but I think she's really trying her best. When it comes down to it, she focuses on the most current weddings first. I used to think she was ignoring us too, but she's just a really busy lady - it's just her running this business, she has no one else. Just keep at her (calling or emailing) - I can guarantee that she's definitely one of the best in this industry! I've had some friends use other destination wedding specialists and they've had some really bad horror stories.

 

In the end, I'm happy with Karen and everything she has done for us for our wedding. She really has made things alot easier on me. If we were to have planned this thing on our own, I probably would've killed someone by now!!!

 

Kim, we booked our packages about a year ago now. But we booked with the original hotel, the Gala. After we booked, they then announced that they were undergoing renovations and changing into a Dreams hotel.

We paid $1350 for a double occupancy, flying out of Toronto. I don't think these numbers are realistic anymore though, as I know the old resort was a little cheaper than Dreams.

 

Nadine...a planning thread? ahhhhh!!! lol What is that? I am so going crazy right now! I'm making lists upon lists, just trying to remember everything and not leave anything out!!!!

ok good! No, I know my wedding is far away so its definately not a priority, I was just hoping you were talking to her alot and able to get a hold of her b/c your wedding is so soon. That way I know later on, she will be ablet o get a hold of when its close to my date.. you know? So thats reassuring and im glad she has been there for you guys.

I do agree that she is very good, adn I am glad we went with her too. I definately think you should get in contact with her Kimvdp!

 

If you look under the one section like 'share your wedding/engagement story' There is something called 'wedding planning journal'.. its where everyone posts everything they did for the wedding, from the engagement ring, to their dresses, to their oot bags, etc etc. To show off your stuff and so other people get ideas too. have you ever looked at that thread before? Its pretty neat. Lots of great stuff.

 

On a good note, we finally decided on our photographer! We are going with Rick Collins out of Vancouver. WE looked at so many dif options and when it came down with it he was the best bang for our buck.. AND we pay him in canadian rather than US like all the other photographers I looked at in the US and mexico. With our dollar being so crappy i didnt want to risk it. yay!!

It is great to see others are getting married in Huatulco. I am also getting married at Dreams Huatulco in April 2009. I have put down my deposit, but I do not have any details. I have a date and time and that is about it. I also heard that there will not be a wedding coordinator until January 1st....
