"Guy-only" weekends...

My FI works out of town for two weeks then is home for two weeks. So, his two weeks away are kinda his "guy weeks" he works every day for 12 hours so he doesn't get to spend too much time going out. I don't mind when he does though. When he is home for two weeks he always involves me with any guy things. We will usually load up the dirt bikes and go find some land, meet up with some other couples, and the boys play while the girls do whatever. As for trips, sometimes he will go back to Canada for a few days to visit his friends. They do whatever, I don't mind.

dh doesn't do this often b/c his friends have gfs, fis, and dws that won't allow them to do so. he used to go on a colorado snowboarding trip, but the other girls put the kabosh on that. his brother's bachelor party will be within the next year tho. like i said, i don't mind strippers - i know who he's coming home to. (prostitutes are another story tho...anyone see very bad things? yikes!!!)

My FI has a lot of "guys only" things - whether it is his guys' night every Thursday or the 5-6 college football games him and his friends travel for. I don't mind it at all. It is kind of annoying that none of his friends have girlfriends or want girlfriends, but I'm sure that will change eventually. My girls and I have girls' night every Thursday and we go to concerts, take trips to the beach, movie nights, etc..without the boys so he should have his time too.

 

I honestly think it makes us miss each other and keeps our relationship strong. I have dated other guys who didn't have or want friends and it was a bit smothering to me. I like having my people and he likes having his people and then it is double the fun when we all hang out

 

I wouldn't give up my girls' nights/trips for the world, so I can't say anything to him about his boys' nights/trips

I have to push mine out the door since he's a homebody...so, to answer the question, no it doesn't bother me and I wish he did it more often!

It really depends on the group of friends he is with. He has some slime bag friends who are all 30 or 40 + who want to go to clubs and pick up chicks and/or to strip clubs--- NOPE! Also, he is a firefighter so sometimes they plan huge skiing trips or trips to Vegas and you have about 50 or 60 guys-- some good, some bad. Those ones make me nervous but I pretend to be completely happy about it because he is a good guy and it doesn't happen too often. I'm all about him hanging with his friends and wish he did it more on a chill level but he just doesn't have a lot of friends that aren't like that. If they are 'good guys' they are all married with children and don't go out much either. We have a huge group of 'couple' friends and we all go on several trips per year together. He does lots of steak and cigar nights and golfing with the fellas in this couple group which is great. I mostly get happy hour with my girlfriends or pedicures. Don't hit up 'the scene' these days. I went to a club a couple of months ago and I felt so old.

 

Honestly Maureen, you're a better person than I am! No way is FI going on a vacation to another country when I'm preggo!

My FI goes on guys only trips at once a month. In June alone he went on three guys only trips! He can go to strip clubs or whatever they decide to do. As long as at the end of the night, he has no regrets.

 

On the same token, I too often take girls only trip. Although, I always go on them with the same two girls or one of the two of them if the other can't go. I only have two friends who are females. The rest of my friends are guys. I would ever go away on a trip with any of my guy friends. I don't expect my FI to ever be okay with that idea, not that I'd dream of it either!

 

This week, we are both going on trips alone to different parts of the US. I will be in FL for 5 days just to get away and relax alone. He will be in NYC partying with his friends. Like he told one of his friend's wife just yesterday, "We give each other the opportunity to miss one another by taking seperate trips every once in a while." She looked at him like he was up to no good and looked at me like I was crazy for letting him travel alone.
