I'm having my ceremony at 5pm. Our photographer suggested that we leave ourselves at least an hour or hour and a half of pictures in the sunlight afterwards (i have a huge family and lots of pics to take). Plus we want to get our party started earlier since we have to end at 11pm.... We are doing:

5-5:30pm Ceremony

5:30-6:30pm Cocktail hr

~6:30-11pm Reception

I'm so glad you asked the question! If I had to do it over again, the first thing that I would change is the time of the ceremony! IMO I would suggest 4 o'clock or 4:30 for the ceremony. We had a 5 pm ceremony and ran out of daylight for the photos.

We actually had to stop because we were out of light and didn't get some photos that I really wanted.

Just my opinion. Use or toss.

Well, our wedding started at 5 pm. At that time the sun had begun to set already, so it was beautiful! The ceremony was over in 25 minutes, we toasted and cut the cake.... then ran off with the photographer to get some photos. It was too dark to take photos by 6:15 pm.

Jilly, according to the sunset calendar the sun will set at 6:21pm on your wedding day. Does that mean you'll take pictures during your cocktail hour and then go back during dinner to get sunset shots?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
