Any feedback on why you chose the ceremony time that you did? I'm planning to have a ceremony at 6:00 pm....is that good/bad/does it matter?

I'm having my ceremony at 5pm. Our photographer suggested that we leave ourselves at least an hour or hour and a half of pictures in the sunlight afterwards (i have a huge family and lots of pics to take). Plus we want to get our party started earlier since we have to end at 11pm.... We are doing:
      5-5:30pm Ceremony
      5:30-6:30pm Cocktail hr
      ~6:30-11pm Reception

I'm so glad you asked the question! If I had to do it over again, the first thing that I would change is the time of the ceremony! IMO I would suggest 4 o'clock or 4:30 for the ceremony. We had a 5 pm ceremony and ran out of daylight for the photos.

We actually had to stop because we were out of light and didn't get some photos that I really wanted.

Just my opinion. Use or toss.

          I'm having a 2:30 ceremony

1st 'cause that was the only time I could find at the marriot and 2nd 'cause I want to take pictures after the ceremony and not worry about the time..

Consider the time of sunset where you will be AND the weather that time of year. My wedding is at 6:15 pm because P.V. in June it would be unbearable for us and our guests to sit in the mid-day sun.

The sun sets close to 8pm in June there so my pictures will not be totally dark.

Well, our wedding started at 5 pm. At that time the sun had begun to set already, so it was beautiful! The ceremony was over in 25 minutes, we toasted and cut the cake.... then ran off with the photographer to get some photos. It was too dark to take photos by 6:15 pm.

Jilly, according to the sunset calendar the sun will set at 6:21pm on your wedding day. Does that mean you'll take pictures during your cocktail hour and then go back during dinner to get sunset shots?
