Sammysgirl- love the BM dress and color! They will look great! :)

Anyone- how long did it take for the Riu to get back to you about confirming a date if you remember? I requested my date on the 7th and the email back said it could take up to ten days. I am religiously checking my emails to look for that confirmation since I am soo excited! I'm getting nervous that I haven't heard anything yet so was wondering how long it took for them to get back to you originally. I am just so anxious to confirm :)

Jen-

My fiance and I requested our date on December 28th (just over two weeks ago) and requested March 27th of this year so we were very anxious given the short turn around. I started to panic after a week so our travel agent started checking with the resort almost daily. I guess there was some change in assignments with the Riu right over the new year and they're trying to coordinate things internally so things are taking a little longer than usual. We were told last week that we were the only wedding planned on 3/27 but they were still waiting to hear back from the minister to confirm he was available- they have other ministers they can contact if one can't do it but they can't officially confirm your wedding until they get an ok from a minister (we are just doing the religious/symbolic wedding- not the legal/civil wedding there). We finally received confirmation last night (two weeks after we requested it) that our wedding was confirmed.

So, to recap a long story... it may take longer than 10 days and you'll stress out like crazy during that time if you're anything like me but most likely if they have your request you will get confirmation... they don't take requests if they don't have the availability at the resort. You can email the planners directly if you're really worried- I can get you the contact info I have for them if you want it.

Good luck! I hope you hear back soon!

Thanks Jess! Good to know that it may take longer and that they don't take requests if they don't have the availability. So I will try to wait it out at least another week before I get too impatient where I will need to email them. Good luck with you wedding planning. Being a Minnesotan myself I know how nice it will be to get away from the cold weather in march wink.gif

hi everyone. I really want to have my wedding at this resort. We are aiming for February 2011. Just a few quick questions as I start my planning.

Do you e mail the hotel to request a date I'd does a travel agent? Does the hotel confirm the date with you? Do you give them a few dates and they give you what's availble? What about time slot? How much is the deposit to reserve your date?

We are using a friend as a photographer? Is that allowed since she is not really a vendor we hired?

We want my aunt to do a short Jewish ceremony after the legal ceremoney. Do you think that would be an issue? Once again she is not an outside vendor. She just happens to be a rabbi. They will be staying at the hotel.

Are guests at the cheeper riu hotels allowed into the rm? I am thinking some of our friends won't be able to afford to stay there but will want to chill there during the day.

Any other tips on where to start?!

jrb, this time in 4wks it will be my wedding day rprm.feb is a great time to go too.i booked through a travel agent so im not totally sure of doing it direct but my understanding is if you book it with the hotel once the date is confirmed they give you 60 days for you to book the rooms etc etc.we had to give 2 dates and they gave us one back.they will also confirm the time a this point.but im not sure how much you have to pay and when.have you tried to contact the hotel?

regarding your friend/photographer.you will be fine because im guessing that your friend will be having a room at the hotel.

are you having a legal ceremony?i know they are more strict with these.i have asked if i can have the minister to read out a small speech thanking our guests for travelling with us and they said that will be ok but because its legal we can,t do our own vows.but in your case you will be married before your aunt does the 2nd ceremony so im sure this will be fine.

with riu weddings they have an 80% rule where 80% of the guests have to stay at the hotel where the ceremony is taking place.you can buy day passes for the others for the day of the wedding which i think are $45?however they wont be allowed into the resort on any other day as it is a palace resort (bigger+better than the others) however you can go into any of the other resorts at anytime/day.

hope this helps but i would email the hotel.good luck

Jrb, I did book mine directly through the hotel. I just went to the Riu Wedding website and chose the wedding, date and type of ceremony. I received an email to confirm the date and then a week or so later they confirmed it with a confirmation number. Very easy and simple. When you got and choose the dates and times, it will not let you choose a date or time if it is not available.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
