We're writing our ceremony for Mexico and it will be really special and personal for us, we don't want people to think that the trip for our wedding is a waste because its not when we're really getting legally married. I'm not sure what I'll wear, I guess because I just look at it as a legal technicality and not really our wedding. The only reason we're doing it is so we don't have to wait for the Mexican government to send paperwork - which they say can be a year.

Our AHR is about a month after our wedding in Mexico. We're renting a very groovy bar/restaurant and having open bar and passed houres d'ouvres, DJ, slideshow of the wedding, I'm wearing my dress again, all that jazz.
We are doing the exact same thing! We want to keep everything a secret. Our AHR is going to be 2 weeks after we get married in Mexico and we are having a bar, dj, houres d'ouvres, and a slideshow. I am going to wear my AHR wedding dress for that. I can't wait to party!shots.gif

I hope everyone is having a great day today!

I was wondering about mrsbettyb too! I hope everything went alright. She is probably just tired and catching up on stuff at home.

Does anyone check tripadvisor regularly? We do, and RPRM has moved up two spots to the #16 hotel in Playa del Carmen. Some recent reviewers had WONDERFUL things to say, so that makes me really excited!

I just checked trip advisor, thats awesome that it has moved up. This resort looks beautiful, it is going to be an amazing wedding location!

I am torn about having a AHR, my family all lives in the same city as my fiance and I however most of his family lives accorss the county, that is one of the reasons we decided on doing the destination wedding so everyone had to spend money, not just his family. We met in Mexico so that is the #1 reason we are getting married there. I want to have an AHR for the people that couldn't come to Mexico but does that mean we have one where we live and one where my fiance's family lives? Then thats 3 parties...things could get expensive that way. I do like parties though, I am torn, any advice?

There are a lot of ways to have a really fun party without breaking the bank. We're having a pretty expensive wedding reception-ish AHR because a lot of our family members will not be able to make it. Most of the people, besides our parents and Dave's son and a few others, will be our friends. So, we really wanted it to have a wedding feel for all those people that won't be able to come. Especially our grandmothers who were really looking forward to a 'wedding'. It seems like there are a ton of couples who do a super casual backyard bbq or picnic in a park. More like just a celebration, or a get together to welcome the newlyweds home. You could have 2 parties in 2 different cities that way and still keep the budget in check. Those sound like super fun ways to have a AHR! What could be more fun than having 3 wedding receptions?

For those ladies who are getting legally married before going to the RIU, how far in advance are you having the ceremony? What are you going to wear? What about the guests, I don't want to make it a big deal but will people be offended if they were not invited to the actual ceremony?

Is everyne planning a AHR? if you are, how long after the actual wedding until you have the AHR?

sorry, I've got lots of questions...
Jetsbride- We're also getting legally married before, but we're doing it in July. The only people that know are my parents and his. We're going to the courthouse together alone, because like chloe, we dont consider it our real wedding and don't want people to not come to mexico because they know we're already legally married. The reason we're doing it 4 months before is because we're buying a house and his parents arent comfortable with us living together first. We also want to combine insurance and it was just easier this way and we figured no one would know the difference anyway.

I might be the only one on the our forum not having an AHR! Like you, my FI's family is from across the US and we just didn't want to leave them out. We also thought about a bbq, but being in Chicago it is also too cold and we don't want to wait till spring or summer because it's long over by then, and I didnt want to deal with people who ARE coming to Mexico feeling like they have to attend 5 events for my wedding. That's just me though. For anyone that can't make it they can always check out our website to see how it went down!

I have also heard of live streaming via internet so people can log in to watch the ceremony live if they can't make it. Does anyone know if the RIU RM offers this? That might be a great way to include more people for those who are interested in that!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
