Who are the wedding coordinators y'all have been talking to? Just curious. I was emailing Vanessa Pedraza back and forth, but last time I tried to contact her it was another girl who emailed me back, so I don't know if she is still there.

What are y'all planning on doing in between the wedding and your reception dinner?

We are getting married at 5 pm and if I read it right, we won't be able to eat until 8 pm at the restaurant.

I haven't been talking to any of the wedding coordinators. My TA told me that things would get answered much more quickly if everything went through her because of her connections. That hasn't turned out super great for us so far though because she doesn't seem to be getting any clear information and it's not coming to her all that fast. Also, I was told that our date was confirmed, but I know nothing about this wedding pack that everyone is talking about. Is that something I'm supposed to get once the day and time is confirmed? Maybe I need to start taking a bit more control.

We're getting married at 5 as well, and just planned on having everyone go to the lobby bar. It was my understanding that they can make this semi-private for you. We're considering getting the mariachi band for awhile during this time. We were going to have cuban cigars and monogramed matchbooks as one of our favors and we thought this would be a good time to have them out. Anybody else have any good ideas?

We got our first email from the wedding coordinator on Friday. It was sent from Ael Enciso. I have exchanged emails with Ael before. It's so exciting to finally hear from the coordinator to get the planning started!! I have so many questions, but I tried not to throw too many back at them right away.

I'm trying to get the time for our reception moved up. 8:45 just seems so late to eat if we're getting married at 5:00. I'll let you girls know how that goes.

We're also still hammering out the photographer issue. The last I heard from Ael, all she said was that we wouldn't get a discount on our wedding package if we didn't use the included photos. No mention of a outside vendor fee or booking a room for the photographer. Not sure what to think??

We want to do a cocktail reception between the ceremony and dinner, and we'd also like to have our first dance then. I'm just not sure if the lobby bar is an appropriate space for that? Anybody know?

Chloe- MY TA told me the same thing. She pretty much does all of my communicating which has been OK so far, since I'm not doing THAT much right now. But I also have not gotten this "wedding pack" others speak of?? We're getting married at 3 and haven't decided what to do with the gap between the wedding & reception. I read a few ideas posted on here previously about bringing personalized mugs for the guests that they can drink out of @ the resort, and you can also easily identify those who came to your wedding from accross the resort. I thought that was cute as well as maraccas (sp?) at the table settings for people to shake when they make a toast or want you to kiss. Love that!

Carrie- That is so exciting that you get to start planning! I was also told today that you only pay a day pass for the outside photagrapher, so I'm hoping we get some final answers on that shortly!

Does anyone know if Carlos is still a photographer for the resort? I read a while back he was great!

THe WC that I've also been in contact w/ is Ael Enciso.

JPJC--Juan Carlos Magallon is still the designated photographer for the Riu. His office is located at the Riu Yucatan (walking distance from RPRM I think). I've been in contact w/ him and we will be meeting for an informational while Im down there next week. I want to meet w/ him to view samples of actual wedding photo albums that he puts together, not just a dvd w/ pics on it. Here's his website and email address.

Wedding Photographer Riviera Maya Mexico :: Juan Carlos Magallon

jcmag@mac.com

Carrieo--Re; having your 1st dance in the lobby by the bar--if this Riu is anything like the Riu's Ive been to in past, then IMHO it will not be a good idea. Granted the lobby area for the Riu Palace is beautiful (decor is just magnificent), however, there will hotel guests that arent part of yor wedding party surrounding you/walking by, gawking, etc---this just will be too intrusive and I wouldnt want random ppl in my wedding pics/video. Remember, they do have a rt to be by the lobby bar too. Depends on if that bothers you though. My cousin has told me that w/ DWs its very important to be flexible!

smile72.gifchloe+josie,

sorry i think the wedding pack thing is my fault.i don,t know if it works differently in the states.we have booked our 2 weeks holiday and signed 1 lot of paperwork giving them 2 dates we would like to get married we then have to wait for rprm to confirm our wedding date with our ta.we then get a pack confirming date and get the info on the extras you can book and the wc contact details etc.you guys are loaded with info so i am guessing you must have something else?

what are you guys doing the night before the wedding?i.e are you staying with your fi?what are your views on this?also are you writing your own vows?

off to work

Thanks for the info everyone.

Josie-I don't think we get a wedding pack. I know we don't hear from the WC at the RPRM until a couple months before the wedding. They will just confirm details, etc. Hope that helped you.

Shellk-I am staying in my room the night before my wedding (we got the 2 story suite-yay) FI will go stay somewhere else, haha. I think he will prob. stay with friends or his brother. I am not writing my own vows.

Carrieo-I can't wait to hear what you end up doing in the time between the ceremony and the reception. Keep us posted.

Thanks Guys! I just checked out Carlos's website and got excited. I love looking at Destination Wedding pics!! I look forward to hearing from you Ms. Betty! Hope your consultation goes great :)

I'm also not staying with the FI the night before, but we're getting in on wed. and I think we'll spend wed. night and thurs. night together, just not friday...lol I haven't thought much about the vow situation, but will probably not write our own.

Question for everyone: What are your groomsmen/groom going to wear? I can't decide between the "linen suit" look or just a white shirt and linen pants. Anyone have any good websites for destination groom attire? Also, what about your bridesmaids? Are you going with a traditional "bridesmaid dress?" I've been looking on Macy's.com and victoria secret and there are a ton of cute dresses that are beachy, cheaper, and not from a bridal shop. thoughts??

Ok, thanks everyone, I'm starting to feel better about the mysterious 'wedding pack'. I was freaking out a little bit that I didn't have a confirmed date and time.

Msbettybernier - Thank you so much for looking into those things for me, it takes a huge weight off my shoulders. I could just imagine paying for a photographer to come down and then them not being able to take photos. Or dragging all these decorations down there that look crazy with what they've got going on, and not being able to use them. We were planning on doing a site visit, but I don't think we're going to be able to work it into the budget after all, so this is a huge help. Thank you!

I'm not sure if I'll be staying with FI the night before. I really like the idea of having a slumber party in my room the night before with all the girls in my bridal party, but I'm worried I'll miss him too much. I think that's kind of the point though, isn't it? I am a little worried about him being a hung over mess if he spends the night before hanging out with his friends though. As far as the vow thing goes, we will definately be writing our own vows. We're actually playing with the idea of writing our entire ceremony. We're getting married at the courthouse here before we leave, so the ceremony will just be symbolic anyways.

We weren't really planning on it, but it seems like everyone in the wedding (excluding me) will be wearing jcrew. FI will be wearing the 3 piece linen british khaki suit with a green tie, and his groomsmen are just going to wear the pants, vest and a white shirt. We haven't decided on whether they're going to wear ties or not. His bestman is his 9 year old son, so we still have to find something for him to wear. Here's the guys suits...

Men - Baird McNutt linen suiting - Baird McNutt linen Aldridge three-button suit jacket - J.Crew

My Bridesmaids are just going to pick whatever dress they like from there in the clover color. So far they all like this one though, so they might end up all getting the same dress (which I was trying to avoid)...

Bridesmaids Dresses - Silk Ballerina & Halter Dresses, Short & Long Dresses - J.Crew

Everybody seemed really surprised when we said no tuxes or suits for the groomsmen, but from looking arount this site, I actually think we're going more formal than most people. What's everyone else here doing?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
