Thanks Chloe: That information is very helpful. And hopefully will be cheaper than the $400 fee.

So I'd just need to book a room for my photographer and his assistant? Do I need to tell the resort what my plans are?

Has anyone else done this? I just don't want the resort to object to them taking pictures, once I hire the photographer and pay for the room.

Maybe I'm worrying too much, but I just don't want to waste money if the resort sees through my plan.

Carrie- I know brides on BDW have done this, but it has been a while since they posted about it so I don't know if anything has changed

Is your photog from the Riviera Maya area? Maybe ask them when is the last time they did a session at RPRM and get a feel for it...

No I haven't heard anything from the resort other than as a reply to what I have sent them. I've sent two emails and both times they've answered my questions and then asked that I wait until 1 to 2 months before hand to arrange all the details.

However, I don't want to wait that long to lock in my photographer. I already feel like I'm a little behind, but I'm getting married on a Monday and so far almost every photographer that I've contacted has been available.

I'm wondering if anyone has hired a local photographer for their wedding at the RPRM? We want to have someone local, but not the resort photographers. Will the resort let us? All I've heard so far from them is that they "prohibit the entrance of external photographers."

There must be some way around this?

Thanks for your input!
Hi Carrie,
I brought my own photographer (flew him down, paid for his stay) and his pictures didnt compare to the pics that the photographer from the Riu took!
Carlos is really good, and If I could do it all over again, I would have just stayed with the Hotel's PHotographer. Im will save you money and you can always purchase more pics if it goes over your package deal.

He is the Riu's exclusive photographer and he knows the hotel and knows where all the money shots are at.

You may want to reconsider and stay with him....Unless you've seen the other photographers work and its off the hook!!!

Good Luck with that!

I'm glad that you had a good experience with the resort's photographer. That's good to hear.

Here are my main issues: I have seen some local photographers with outstanding pictures and reasonable rates. I haven't seen much of the resort photograher's work. The resort's package only includes one hour before the ceremony, during the ceremony, and one hour after. For close to the same price, I can get a pretty sweet photographer for 5 or 6 hours. I just need to figure out how to get him on to the resort.

hi carrieo-

i am getting married at the rprm and i am using a del sol photographer and i have it in writing that i can have an outside vendor come in to take the pictures for 100 dollars. I also have guests coming that are staying at their time shares for 65 dollars that day. i know what you mean about the photographer~ you dont want to have second rate photos so make sure you get that rate! i actually mentioned he was a "close" friend of mine and that he HAD to do if for us (the photographer). del Sol Photography

i hope this helps! trust me, i will go bridezilla if i dont get what i want!! i am having 40 ppl stay at this hotel for my wedding so i want nothing less than top notch service!!! if you need any other info let me know, i will be getting what i want and more! thats just me wink.gif

That's so great to hear; thanks for chiming in. I agree that we all should get what we want. I'm going to try to work out a similar deal with the resort. We have 40 people coming too, so hopefully that will be leverage. What a great photographer you hired. I can't wait to see your pictures. When is your wedding?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
