Hey everyone!

Hope you're all well. We are looking at booking our wedding at the Riu Palace RM (not until April 2015 though) and we have the details of the basic wedding packages, but does anyone know where we could find any information and pricing on extras, please? We'd like to add hair/makeup, possibly an evening reception, DJ, cocktails etc, but can't seem to find any details for these. Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Thank you x

Hey all!

We are looking at a March/April 2015 wedding at the Riu RM. We were just a little confused on extras outside of the main wedding package - cocktail hour, hair, makeup, reception etc - does anyone have any details on pricing for extras, please? Would be great to get an idea of how much the extras will be before we book!

Also, we were swaying towards having our first dance during the cocktail hour, is that a pretty common choice?

Thanks! x

Hello Riu Palace Riviera Maya brides! Congrats on your upcoming weddings! :) This post is for any brides interested in affordable decor for your big day.

I'm a newlywed from Vancouver, Canada that lives down here in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. I have quite a few decor items leftover from our wedding in May, mostly in a rustic vintage style. I've decided to rent things out to brides that don't want to lug things like vases & mason jars down here to Mexico, and have priced things quite fairly compared to the resorts' prices.

I have a lots of different types of bottles, mason jars, vases and lanterns, as well as a variety of other items like wooden signs & frames, table runners, rustic birdcages, string lighting and even a portable sound system.

If you want a Style Me Pretty or Ruffled type of wedding in Mexico without a huge price tag, I'm your gal! So far no one has had to pay an outside vendor fee at all, as they tell their WC that they have brought the decor themselves. I'm also always interested in buying items that brides bring down and would like to sell after their weddings, please send me photos of anything you'd like to sell!

If you'd like to see some photos and a price list, please send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you all the info. Also if anyone has any questions about the area, ask away! I've lived in Playa Del Carmen for two years and know the whole coast quite well. Happy planning ladies!

Here's a couple of photos of some items we used in our wedding and that are for rent, but I have lots more:

Hi,

Congratulations on your engagement!  I'm Sheri from Sweet Fire photography.  I would like to comment on your question about the timing of the first dance.  If you are planning to hire a photographer for your wedding then most likely you won't attend the cocktail hour.  Most photographers take the couple around the resort and to the beach to capture Newlywed images while their guests are attending cocktail hour...

We usually suggest our brides to plan the first dance right at the very beginning of their reception.  That's a moment when all your guests are gathered together again and probably there is a setup already to provide music for your dinner and party, which you can easily use for your first dance.

If you would like to know more about how a typical wedding day unfolds from a photographers view, feel free to read through are FAQ's.  Under #13 you will find information on how a wedding day builds up and how to plan the timing of the events through your day:  http://www.sweetfirephotography.com/#!faqs/c1wzv

I hope this helps!

Liz24,

Do you have any pricing you could share with me about renting the Daquari Bar?  It sounds like the perfect idea and would love more info!  Thank you!  Now that its 2014, it seems so REAL!!  I can't wait!

My fiance and I are interested in arranging an excursion for our guests.  We would love to foot the bill for it if there are somewhat affordable options.  Does anyone know if the resort has discounts for larger groups (~30 guests).  Does anyone have any recommendations of excursions that would meet the needs of a group?

Also, if it does not fit into our budget, is it rude to arrange an excursion for your group and ask them to pay and those that want to come can?  I honestly have no clue what the ettiquete is for this stuff!

When I go for my wedding in April 2014, I want to do an informal Meet & Greet on two nights.  Mainly because we have a bunch of people arriving on Wednesday and Thursday.  What would be the best bar for us to kind of 'take over?'  I'm thinking we will stratgically camp out at a few tables, bring OOT bags to distribute and our group could just chill for a couple hours.

In all the promotional photos of the RIU RM I see pics of an outdoor area with tables and chairs near the main building.  Is that part of the buffet or a bar?

Thanks everyone!

Hi All

I really need some help. I am getting married 15th August at The Riu Palace Mexico, we are taking a small group with us 10/15 people, so therefore are having a semi private reception at 6.30pm. This s where the problem lies, we are learning a first dance and need the space in which to do it? Has anybody any ideas as we are really stuck. I have emailed the wedding coordinator though have had no response. Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Have any of you brides seen the recent reviews for this hotel on Trip Advisor?  There are tons of mildew in the rooms, nasty smells in the rooms (indicating mold/mildew problems) and lack of general maintenance leading to running toilets, toilets that don't flush well, cracked sinks etc.

I'm concerned because I've already committed to this resort and it seems like its going downhill.  Some reviews indicate they raise their complaints to the front desk or management who don't awknowledge or deal with the situation.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
