Hi ladies -

I had a question? I'm doing a two color candy buffet I wanted to extend on the idea of just have apothecary vases. I have about 10 apothecary vases (ebay and my own) and I also wanted to do two treasure box on each side. I would paint them to the scheme of the candy buffet which would be aqua/seafoam and coral/orange. I have never seen this so I don't how it would look but would love to hear suggestions and ideas from you ladies..

This sounds great!!!  I think what you are envisioning would look amazing!  I love candy buffets!  What kind of candies were you thinking?  I saw these awesome letter trays too - you could have your initials, too....maybe fill with M&M's with your colors...

U wanted to do a mixture of old school and Filipino candy. Old school like now-and-laters, mike-n-ikes etc, all would color coordinated. I did see the letters and they are nice I'm still contemplating. Since I have now added a photo booth to the mix my FI is saying we have to minimize the candy buffet because we are spending money to build a photo booth frame from PVC pipe to take with us. :(

  • 2 weeks later...

yay finally figured out what I'm going to give my wedding guest as favors. We wanted to do something inexpensive since we are already giving out OOT bags. After searching and thinking about this I have decided to give out dahlia flower seeds. I wanted to do something that represented Mexico, us, and be sentimental, so I researched Mexico's national flower and found out dahlia's were it. I looked up dahlia's and was amazed at how beautiful the flower is. I went to my horticulture guy here at work and asked him about the flower and he gave me the scoop on the flower such as germination, and longevity. He printed out a "how to for dahlias" for me and explained that they are attention-whored flowers (I just made that up).

So to incorporate "us" in this I looked up the symbolic meaning and it reads

"Love and Dahlia's

Symbolizing hope for an everlasting union between two people, dahlia flowers are presented to couples at engagement parties and weddings. These flowers, which bloom in white and a variety of showy hues, including pink, crimson, orange and yellow, are given as an anniversary gift in celebration of 14 years of marriage, although the origin of this tradition is unknown

Perfect!! Next I found some ways to gift wrap to give them out, (this part I'm still pondering). One was in treasure chest boxes I found on papermart (link below). I would decorate the box to leave on the dinner plate as part of the decor for the reception. http://www.papermart.com/Product%20Pages/Product.aspx?GroupID=16936&ParentGroupID=18900

The other way I found on Martha Stewart's DIY website (link below) I would also leave these on the dinner plates at the reception but I was thinking that I might not could do this because I would need to put the "how to" inside. So I may go with the treasure box. http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/226340/paper-dahlia

Another thing I found from a buyer on Etsy was dahlia resin's. which I would use in my decoration for the treasure box. I have spoken to the lady Erin and she is very nice. She said she would do a custom order for my wedding colors. I wanted to put some sort of picture on the treasure box so that people know what they look like and the dahlia resins are perfect. http://www.etsy.com/shop/ohwhatfunatl

Once I'm finished with the project I will post it on here for any bride who would like to do this. Please let me know your suggestions, comments, and anything else you would like to add.

Wow that is beautiful Shay, I love that idea. <3

I haven't planned a single thing. I don't think I realize that it is only 8 months away & there is still so much I'd like to do, but won't. I probably won't start planning til atleast 4 months out. ha & then go on an ordering binge!

Tashay - what an adorable idea with the dahlia's...I was looking at the Martha Stewart link - the bulb's are way cute!!!  A great way to incorporate Mexico into your special day!!!!  Ya done good, girl!!!!  I cannot wait to see what your final decision is,

I was originally going to do these starfish bottle openers as my favors, (ummm, I already bought a box of 100 months ago)....now I kind of wish I waited....(UGH!)

Now I think I may just add them to my OOT bags (2 per bag) and do the amol maracas as my favor instead,,,,still unsure...I really love the maraca poem & the idea of the guests shaking these to see us kiss!!!  I am sure it's something they never heard of before.  I am thinking of special ordering them in my colors of blue, green and pink (not shown).  Having bottle openers and maracas on the table would be just TOO MUCH & TOO BUSY!!!!!!!!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
