Hello!! I am so thankful for this amazing forum! I have been engaged for about 7 months now and said to say we are just getting down to the decision making process!  I am set on the RPRM and really love reading the reviews on it.  A few questions we are having a hard time finalizing a date and choosing between mid august or early october.  We are a little nervous about august being hurricane season, any thoughts on this?  Also, any advice on the reception/dinner concept is really appreciated! We are also trying to keep the costs down so I don't want to pay extra just to eat and drink "privately" at an all inclusive resort.  We are going to have approx 30-40 guests and we are fairly laid back but I still want to include some traditional things (ie first dances)  Can any past prides shed lights on how they coordinated their dinner/music.  I read a lot about the IPOD dock, did anyone successfully execute this? Thanks so much for any help/advice you can provide!!

I also have one more question, more recently there have been quite a few Trip advisor reviews complaining of roaches and lack of cleanliness.  I know in the older reviews everyone raved about the resort.  Has anyone been recently? Can anyone comment on this?  Thank you!!

Hello. I was married at RPRM in April, and was there for 10 days. I did not see a single roach, and the resort is so clean I find it comical that someone would complain about lack of cleanliness.  However, with that said, the Riviera Maya is a tropical destination. Warm weather + humidity + tropical locations do equal bugs so it is quite possible that someone saw a cockroach...

The resort is spectacular and I would be amazed if you found it to be anything but perfect.

I have to agree... this resort is wonderful :-) We were there from May 1st to May 15th and i think we saw one baby cockroach in a corridor.. as V has just said this is a tropical destion, with warm weather and humidity.... I would be very very very suprised if you would find any resort that has NEVER had a cockroach or bug.... This is in no way a bad reflection on the hotel or their staff, im sure if they didnt care about bugs we would find them everywhere, but there will always be one bug once in a while that will get past any bug spray or other bug repelant, this doesnt mean its infested with them....

Its a fantastic resort and im sure you will agree :-)

We are trying to plan a wedding for July 2012, but have been having trouble finding specific information on prices at RIU... I was at a RIU wedding in Puerto Vallerta and loved it, but we liked the Riviera Maya location better.   We really like the resort, but aren't sure what costs will look like in the end.....I know all the small details add up, but was wondering if anyone was willing to share what their final numbers looked like?  We are looking to have about 50 guests and would like a private dinner as the reception...

ANy info would be helpful!!  Thanks sooo much..

Glad to see there is another possible Riu Palace RM bride here!

We are anticipating about 40-50 guests for our wedding in November.

If you haven't already done so, I would recommend visiting Riu's website on weddings (http://www.riu.com/en/weddings/) to request information and look at package prices.

Since we are having more than 40 guests, we are going with the Caprice package, which costs either $2570 (civil ceremony) or $2425 (religious). Additionally, we want a private reception at Chili's, which will cost an extra $20 per person. If you have at least 50 people, you can get a private reception for free at the Brazilian restaurant, and if you have at least 80 people, you can have a private reception for free at the steakhouse (Chili's). Otherwise, you will have to pay an additional $20 per person for a private reception. While I don't like this added cost, having a private reception with music is very important to us! Speaking of music, the cost of using their DJ is $1200. This seems much too steep, so we are probably going to bring an I-Pod and sound system of some sort.

We opted not to use one of the resorts photographers and have instead hired our own (Fine Art Studio).

Additionally, there will be other small charges along the way (i.e. bridesmaids bouquets) that aren't included in the wedding package.

In the end, the entire price for our wedding (wedding package, private reception, 10 nights hotel/airfare for the 2 of us, photographer, bridal gown/accessories, grooms/groomsmen/bridesmaid attire (we are paying for their outfits), save the dates, invitations, his mother's hotel/airfare for 7 nights (since she can't afford), will be about $15,000. Originally, we thought we could do it for under 10k, but we opted to spend more on a few items (like photographer; 3k and paying for our bridal party's attire; about $700) than we originally anticipated.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
