Hi Everyone!!

My fiance and I have recently booked our wedding at the RIU Palace Riviera Maya in December.  We have 25-30 guests that will be making the trip from Minnesota.  We booked the caprice package through our TA and received some feedback from the resort and are still questioning a few items.  Here are our Questions:

1.  Our big question is the reception I have looked online for hours but have not been able to find too much of where you can have a reception/dance more outdoors at this resort. Also if anybody has any pictures from a reception that was held there that would be great.

2.What is the big difference between the semi private reception compared to the private?? We get a semi private included but I am afraid it might not be as personal as we would like.

3.  Is it worth it to book a DJ, or would  the resort have a sounds system with a ipod hookup work?  and can you bring an outside DJ into the resort from the Cancun area?

4.  I see that the resort has a photographer, but am wondering if I want to book through a different one.  How would I go about booking a photographer other than the resort photographer?

Thanks for the feedback,

Steph

I don't think you can have the reception on the beach or courtyard if thats what you meant. Probably the closest thing would be to have it at Chilis restaurant (its outside). The semi-private reception is when you have a section of a restaurant blocked off for dinner. No dancing or anything like that. A private reception would  be just that...a separate dinner/dancing for you and your guests. Ofcourse the private reception comes with an additional price. I know its tedious, but look through past posts and reviews to see pics of the receptions. I think its your persal preference whether hiring a DJ is worth it,but at the same time, many ladies do the Ipod hookup. To bring any outside vendors (dj or photographers) on to the property, there is a fee. I think its like $300-$400? Hope that helps a little. I'd also email Riu to get information....

Hey, weird question for you ladies... Do they make the bridal party keep their all-inclusive wrist bands on for the wedding? Just thought about that.

Hey everyone!

We have been back from Mexico almost a week now, and everything was WONDERFUL! I honestly couldn't have asked for a better place to hold my wedding. The staff and wedding coordinators exceeded my expectations greatly. I have read through every single page in this forum and I feel that the kinks people have experienced in the past have been smoothed out now. Nancy went above and beyond to do everything for us, we didn't get any extra charges for things like putting up our decorations or anything like that.  In fact the wedding ended up being cheaper than I thought... the prices Nancy gave me in the email were for 2011 but she ended up honoring the 2010 prices to be fair since its what I had signed up for originally. Anyway, I will write a full review when I get more time, but here are some of the pics!

Bride2B: They gave me a price for having the reception on the beach, but it was almost twice as much money. It depends on what time of year you are going I guess, but we were just there end of January and a beach reception would have been a little chilly/windy. We had ours at Chili's, which was a mostly outdoor restaurant anyway, but it was the perfect temperature at night and the wind was blocked. We decided to pay the $20 per person to have a private reception which meant we got Chili's to ourselves from 7-11. We also had the DJ, and unless you pay to have it private, you cannot have dancing at your reception. The reason we paid the $1200 for a DJ is because if you want to use your own ipod they still charge $500 (i think that was the price) to use their hook up for speakers and all that. So instead of worrying about what music we were playing, the DJ played music for us. We didn't have to tell him anything about what to play except our first dance, mother/son and father/daughter, and no one left the dance floor all night because the music he played was AWESOME. I think he was the same DJ Dana had in November and she loved him too. As for the photographer, their prices were pretty high, and we didn't really love her when she was directing us because she was kind of rude and quiet so we couldnt all hear what she was telling us  to do. BUT when we got our pics they were great. So, I would still recommend the resort photographer. From other girls on the forum I think they said when you bring an outside photographer, you just have to pay for them to get into the resort, either get them a night stay or the day pass, which was $65 per day for us.

Also, we did take our wristbands off for pictures and I lost mine, but the front desk just gave me another wristband when I showed them my photo ID.

The point I want to stress is PLEASE Don't stress too much, because they really do it all for you. You will all love it!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
