It has been quiet! I have been uber busy with school lately, so thats my excuse wink.gif! We have 6 weeks of summer classes (last in-class part of the program) in which we are taking 4 different courses for 11 credits. Needless to say everything is being crammed in there which keeps us busy. I'm also getting ready to leave for an 8-week internship in Vegas in July too which I am SUPER excited about, but a little nervous. So if any of you end up having a trip to Vegas between July 8- Sept 3, let me know, lol :)

On a wedding note: We are going to meet with our likely DJ this weekend for our AHR to make she we like her :).... Hopefully another thing to check off the list!

How about all you girls- anything new and exciting in your life or regarding wedding stuff :)... Other then all the great promotions and new jobs we've been hearing about (congrats again to all of you)

HEY GUYS! I know- I have been such a wreck lately, and not on the forum at all which is NOT like me!!! I've been traveling back and forth between new house and old, no good internet connection, stressing like a maniac. But hopefully we can get all moved this weekend, and my life can get back to normal again!

I promise, promise promise, I will post my planning thread before I go (I have to, I am obsessed with them!) and I will be much better after the wedding when everything settles down!!

OH and Jen- I am the worst BDW'er ever, but I am sending the pails TODAY along with all of our luggage tags. A million apologies!!

I'll also catch up on all of the wonderful things you guys have going on on here. So excited for everyone!!

Everything was great! minus few Hicups...we actually wrote to the wedding coordinator (a detailed email) I will post it here so that you ladies know what I am talking about. I don't want to post this in my detailed review though. But all in all the resort is gorgeous and if I had redo things I would still choose this resort :-)

so below find the email we wrote to Pamela/Nancy yesterday. we haven't heard anything as yet. we will go see them in person tomorrow if we don't hear from them. Nancy is the new coordinator (Ael had quit) Nancy is super sweet but I believe I am her first or second or maybe the third wedding, I think with experience she will get better,

Hi Pamela/Nancy,

As you probably know we would like to discuss a few aspects of our wedding and the associated charges. We have outlined below the reasons for the dispute and a detail of the remedies we are seeking.

Cocktail Hour

For our cocktail hour there were a few aspects that did not go as planned which are detailed below:

1. There was no ice available during the first 35 minutes of the cocktail hour, hence no drinks available. The staff at Lirico were working diligently to try to find a solution but this should have been sorted out long before our guests arrived at the cocktail hour (Me and Philip were out taking pictures with the hotel videographer). A few friends who we had assigned to help make sure everything was expected looked for Nancy to inform her but were not able to locate her (she told us later she was in Botafogo setting up the reception - but this was at 5:30pm).

2. We had cigars for our guests but they were not put out on the tables. When one of our friends asked where they were they were informed there weren't any. Our friend went to the clearly marked suitcase we provided and they were clearly in there. The staff did place ashtrays and our matches on the tables, just no cigars. We clearly stated we had cigars that we also wanted incorporated.

3. Once Mariachi band left after their initial session there was no music in Lirico. When we met with you guys on Weds we were assured that there will be background music at Lirico. We asked the bartender about music and she said it was coming. A few minutes later we asked again and she said it was still coming. Soon after someone did come but could not get the sound system to work (the screen was just flashing multiple colors). It was very awkward and uncomfortable for a long period while our guests waited and wondered what was going on. I announced we were having technical problems and would have it resolved shortly. As our guests were just sitting there wondering what to do out of desperation we asked the Mariachi band to continue to play. If we had not we would have sat in silence for the remaining 1.5 hours of our cocktial hour. It was very awkward without music. The technical person never got the sound system to work. We do not believe we should pay for the additional time of the mariachi band as this was the hotels mistake, someone should have checked and confirmed the music system was functional prior to our event, or at least before the mariachi band was over. Additionally the Mariachi band was a little late (not a big deal but we would have liked them to be on time). We were told to keep to a very strict schedule and we did but the vendor did not.

Reception at BotaFogo

1. We paid $9 per person to have an open bar during our reception dinner. From pictures that we have seen from other weddings and from what was communicated to us we expected a table to be set up with drinks and a barternder. There was no open bar even though we paid $9 for 49 people ($441 in total). We feel we should be refunded for the $441 as this service was not performed. All our guests had to drink was wine, soda, beer and capperiana and if they wanted anything else they had to walk to Lirico.

Other than the items mentioned above the wedding went very well. There were small communication misunderstandings with our ceremony but nothing that prevented us from having a great wedding. We would like to reinforce how helpful and gracious the hotel staff was and how happy we were with our wedding and our stay at the hotel overall. We don't think any of these mistakes were intentional but rather an oversight. Planning a wedding is a lot of coordination by many differnt people and departments involved, and we understand this, but at the same time we feel we should not have to pay for mistakes. Specifically we disputing the amount paid for the reception open bar ($441) and the additional pending charge for the Mariachi band of ($565) for a total of USD $1,006.

We are avaiable to discuss any aspect of this email.

Best Regards,

Philip and Samira

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
