Alright ladies, I'm not panicking, but the dress pick up did not go well. So here's the story- I tried on the sample dress and it fit (if it had minor alterations, siggy pic) except the mid back didn't zip up because I'm pretty busty. SO when I ordered, the owner of the bridal salon said that Pronovias was changing their sizing structure, and adding a couple inches to the sizes. So what they did is order the sample size for me thinking that it would be fit. I thought it would be perfect, then I could take it in where I needed to.

WELL that didn't happen. My dress fits SMALLER than the sample dress did! They even took my measurements and I've even lost a few inches here and there. The measurements of my dress take it to about a size or less than the sample.

We all kind of freaked out a bit, because my dress took over 3 months to come in and my wedding is in 4 1/2. But then they brought the seamstress in, and she assured that even if I don't lose any more weight (which I totally plan on doing. That bikini isn't wearing itself!) that the dress has enough fabric in the seams and zipper to let it out to fit me.

So they completely reassured me-- now my crazy goal is to be able to fit into this damn dress WITHOUT alterations (but I obviously cannot shrink my boobs)! But the reassurance that it will not matter is nice.

All in all- slightly stressful, but motivating. Also- that salon obviously is lacking communication somewhere. Grrrr!!!

Dear RPRM forum,

Now that I have the time I would like to share why I did not end up booking my wedding at the RPRM.

For starters, I fell in love with this Riu through online pics & reviews. This forum even confirmed that I wanted my wedding there.... the comments and picture sharing on this forum are amazing!!!! I sent the hotel info to friends & family who loved it too.

Here is the downside:

The downside is if you have under 57 ppl and still want a private dinner and DJ.

I originally contacted the Wedding Sales Coordinator Daniela Flores for Friday May 7, 2010 wedding at the Gazebo at 4:00 pm for 35 guests.

I was told that dinner would be at 8:45 pm at Boto Fogo's, for an additional fee with a 27person minimum the dinner could be private and a dj would be and additional fee.

My next question: what do you do for four hours btwn 5 o'clock and 8:45 pmhuh.gif

Answer: cocktail hour, appetizers additional fee

So at this point I was willing to adapt to a VERY long cocktail hour and hope that everyone wouldn't be very drunk or tired before dinner, willing to have the mariachi for entertainment... and still ready to book.... then I read on this forum that 57 ppl were needed in order to have a DJ...huh.gif? WHAThuh.gif So I emailed her back this,

What if there are under 27 guests?

Answer: 26 guests and under dinner would be at 6:30 pm at Chili's, dinner not private.

That's when I was told about the minimum of 57 guests in order to be guaranteed a DJ.

Otherwise you can rent the RIU Yucatan disco ...of course for an additional fee and have to leave the resort so late at night, considering older guests and younger nieces and nephews... Ugh. What a random day it would turn out to be.

I was very upset that they were not upfront everything. She kept saying that once you book it the wedding coordinator would contact me 2 months prior to the date and answer all my questions. I would have been VERY upset to have me and my guests for my dream wedding to have such a random, scattered wedding day.

It seems from this forum that at a 60 guest count, however, you get the earlier seating at 6:30 pm at Chili's (prettier place, BETTER time) PLUS you get a DJ. It also seems that all of the GREAT reviews on this forum came from a guest count of around 60 ppl.

Also, for the lower guest count after the 8:45 pm dinner you can leave the resort to the Riu Yucatan and rent their disco for an additional fee... but by then it's 11 pm and my fi's mother, older guests and younger nephew & niece would be headed to bed...

Oy, what a scattered day. Not how I pictured my wedding, not how I pictured my first dance.

Thought I would share what I learned for those brides with a lower guest count.

On a happy note, because I did fall in love with the RPRM even though it's not the place for my wedding... we ended up booking a trip there and I leave this Friday 2/26 for paradise!

Ladytrunk - Wow, what a crazy story about your dress, that's strange that povonais has decided to change the way they size their dresses. Anyway, it is deffinate motivation to get into the dress!! and lots of times when people lose weight it comes off the chest to start! As for the music you can bring your own music on cd for the ceremony or choose from the music they have, we used the music they had and the 2 songs we picked were canon in d and better together.

Frenchie - I was definately going through the same delimma's you are with the RPRM and having to have certain number of guests to do certain things. I still don't like the way they have it setup but in the end we had 61 people and we got great times and our dinner at chilis, I would have been very nhappy if things did not work out though. You will have no problem finding a resort to accomodate you. I think on of the best things about the RPRM is they can accomodate larger groups because many places won't.

Jannae- I can't believe that about your dress! Glad to hear that it will workout either way though. It irritates me how the people at the bridal salon make you order the wrong size though!!! They did that to me...I ended up ordering a size larger than I usually wear, when really I should have got what I wanted...I ended up having to get $150 in alterations, because it was so big! On a positive note...I finally got to pick up my dress and take it home this past weekend! Finally, I can stop stressing over that part!

Frenchie- I'm so sorry you're having a change of plans with RPRM...I'm sure everything will work out fine and you'll find the perfect place for your group! I'm excited to hear that you're going there this week though! I can't wait to hear about it when you get back...definitely take lot of pics! :)

Thanks ladies! I will take lots of pics, looks like I'll be there for Mrs. March's wedding... I'll make sure we don't end up in her ceremony pics wearing speedos.... hahaha...

LadyTrunk, your dress pic is gorgeous! I hope it all works out, esp. if you have that seasoned seamstress on your side! My friend lost a few extra lbs just before her wedding due to nerves and her dress ended up fitting a little loose.

Congrats on getting your dress figured out Katie! This is my new stress. I'm going to be cutting it pretty close, but I work well under pressure. Seriously what is these salons problems?? I thought the same thing when they were ordering mine- and we were both right!

Thanks Frenchie- I am in love with that dress. I'm also nervous about the last minute poundage loss. I tend to drop up to 3+ lbs when I'm stressed, and I don't want it to happen after alterations. And what do you mean no speedos to crash the wedding pics!? haha

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
